That Louie Shelton video was awesome. Yes, the studio pros do play that clean and correctly: one take!

I didn't like John Meyer much until I saw him with Dead & Co. I thought he over played a little at first, but the more I hear the more I like. And he seems very respectful of the fans the shoes he's filling. He can play a Hello Kitty guitar through a Pignose for all I care as long as it works for the music.

We guitar players overthink the gear thing quite a lot, rather then focusing on making music. And I'm as guilty as anyone with that.

This post started out about the guitar, then Mayer. I will now segue into genre. These gits were used by players who play a million notes a minute. A guitar lead is like a paragraph made of concise sentences, not a word salad. A lotta this post is really about that mentality.

I think I may have given you a run for being the worst skater in the midwest (Il, too), but I had the Hawk Boneite via 1988. Old guys rule!

That Charvel is badass. I'd love a hardtail version.

But then, I'm a Charvel nerd. Always have been.

As for Mayer? He's a killer player. Period. Anybody who doesn't think he has his own thing going on obviously hasn't been paying attention.

I'll be seeing Dead and Co for the second time this year, this month. Can't wait. Johnny kills it in that band. And as far as tone goes, I'd love to get his sound with Dead and Co. It's gorgeous.

The boyz always played whatever the hell they wanted. Why can't JM?

Next thing ya know, the Dead ( & C) will be sporting matching ... sportcoats...

Seeing more Charvels these days, Fender marketing must have seen an opportunity.

Dhani Harrison was sporting a So Cal on Conan and Jimmy Kimmel recently.

What is it about a Floyd Rose that you do not like? I've had Bigsbys, strat tremolos, Kahlers, and Floyd Rose and the Floyds seemed to be the most stable and useful.

Funny every time I read this thread title I keep seeing John Mayall.

John Mayall buying a Charvel, THAT would be interesting.

They're a major PITA to string and set up.

If you break a string the whole thing is hopeless. You're not finishing that song. Lol.

I rest my palm on the back of the bridge when I pick, so that's a mess, too.

Only hard tails for me. No interest in any term of any kind.

I've found Bigsbys as much of a pain to string up as a Floyd, and they will also shaft you if you break a string. I set my strat trems to float, so same issue there. Of the three types, the Floyd seems the most stable. I dread the day I break a string in front of someone....

HPIM1289.JPG HPIM1291.JPG HPIM1293.JPG This '82 Charvel Spiderweb seasick green Strat had been played at many gigs with our band.
two guitarists played it. one died, the other eventually left the band and the guit was sold.
no relicing needed -- rather repairs. I loved the sound of it.

The only thing I have to say is, I challenge you to the “Worst Skater” title.

I was decent on roller blades, but a board??? Nope. Disaster! Painful disaster.

Knowing Mayall, he'd cut it up pretty severely...
What he's holding here is what's left of a Fender Eric Johnson strat.

And it would appear that he owned a Charvel before.
