For what his girly, acoustic strumorama tunes are, I think their ok. But when we come to his bluesy stuff, especially the John Mayer trio stuff, i can’t think of any better guitar player under 50 other than him(and Derek trucks).

I don’t really have a point or a question here, I’m basically trying to get some drama and division out of something that has none( also known as the Obama effect ).

PS. All of have got to look up “vultures live in LA” (my second favorite song behind Hotel Cali.

Mayer? Yawn. Just another picker who is about a 1000 times better than I am.
I dont listen that often but its always good when I do.
I listened to a bunch of old videos on Berklee School of Music when he was doing some seminars. Seemed like a real nice person.

Great songwriter. Terrific player. Gear nerd. Seems like a guy I’d enjoy meeting. I liked his signature Strat.

Dang-near great player...plays for the song, not over it (I'm talking to you, Bonnamassa!)

    Very, very good singer.

Good songwriter of catchy and memorable tunes.

Excellent in his versatility--pop, Blues, jam music, rock...

Uncomfortable to watch while he sings...the weird things he does with his mouth and tongue make me wince.

    That's my unsolicited 2¢.

John Mayer is an excellent, world-class song-writer,
    creator of unique pop-craft,
    unbelievable blues guitar player,
    intelligent, cerebral man,
    and, sadly,
    all too frequently,
    a self-absorbed cocque.

His talent is off the scale, don't get me wrong.
When he finally hits age fifty, I want to meet him.

    :)

Like his music a lot, great guitar player. I really just don't like his singing though. Maybe it is just me. Wince making mouth movements not exclusive from that.

I dont like his voice, find the lyrics uninspiring and as for the playing, Id rather listen to many other more inspiring musicians even if its for the upteenth time. I will take texas flood on repeat all day over mayer’s entire catalogue.

My wife insisted we go see him at the Budokan anfew years ago. She was less interested in his music than the fact that he dated some of her favorite celebs, and played girly songs. But almost the entire crowd at the Budokan was made up of men, Japanese guitar players and fans. It was a good show, we had great seats, and I ended up enjoying it more than my wife. He didn’t play any girly songs, but played a lot of loud rock. I’d see him again if he came back to Tokyo.

I've never understood why he's so polarizing to many guitar players. My opinion is that he's supremely talented in every way.

His earlier Accoustic music didn't excite me in terms of the songs themselves, but some of the playing was truly remarkable.

The Trio stuff is great and his playing extremely tasteful.

I also saw him with Dead and Company not too long ago and his playing at that particular show was great.

I really dig his touch and playing style. Honestly, what's not to like? Great tone, feel, dynamics...

I wish I could make to his upcoming New Year’s Eve concert. Crossroads, vultures, ain’t no sunshine; all really great bluesy rock tunes
