Yeah, that's a good point. When I was in my teens/20s I had very little spending money so I bought a lot of second-hand cds. Not so great for the artist. These days if I come across a band I really like (that aren't already superstars), I will pay whatever it is (within reason) if I'm buying directly from the band or from a platform that is band friendly (e.g. bandcamp).

Because socks were wool or cotton not a space age polymer that was spit out of a machine at 60 MPH....

    Switchcraft jacks. CTS pots.

Beer? Really? Often- at least in the UK- the good stuff is half the price of the branded junk.

I find it interesting to find the cheaper alternative if same quality, but I will only buy Heinz ketchup and baked beans

I love good shoes but it kills me to pay £300 for a good pair. What I found is a lot of people buy really fine shoes then never wear them. I have bought shoes that retail for 300 on eBay for 90

Admittedly I got driven to this because I would in the alternative be buying mail order anyway, but I do have that feeling like when your wife says 'I saved 210£ today on a pair of shoes'

I reckon by buying used/paying cash/shopping around I live at half the price people I work with do. Happy for them to work twice as long

They do, because people will buy ANYTHING, especially if they can get a celebrity endorsement. My granddaughter has just the celebrity in mind for the job after he cancelled his appearance in L.A.

This is the point I was hoping to imply - I'd rather buy an album or merch or whatever from them at a show or from their official store, rather than a third party retailer. Apologies if it wasn't clear

Yeah, my mindset is I'd rather buy fewer records and support the artists I like than buy every record I like but not have anything go to the band. A couple years back, my record collection was mainly second-hand and it grew very quickly - these days, I'll very rarely add to it, but whatever I get will be brand new, from the artist.

I tried it a few times (lack a darning ball? try a lacrosse ball) getting the hole closed was no problem, but apparently not creating a rough blistering repair is a lost art..

    An accountant.
The only thing I farm out.
Cheapskate-ism and poverty have forced me to learn how to do virtually everything else on my own.
I just can't abide or understand those forms.

None, being that I still am compelled to provide my unemployed ex-wife with child support.

You can find quality yet relatively low-cost versions of everything.
