Soo im in Baker Nevada..... They have a snake valley days fundraiser weekend with all sorts of stuff that includes a group of musicians that regularly play together. I sat in with them for the afternoon jam in front of the silent auction areas with booths and the whole works. Well turns out they were playing the next evening at the big BBQ and they asked me to sit in for the gig. Well it went really well had a ball, everyone got their moment to shine. It was very congenial. Now for the real wierd part. The keyboardist was a road manager for ZAPPA back in the 60's. Well one night Lowell George came to his room and asked him to listen to this new song he wrote.... First time he played it for someone.... The song. "WILLIN". how's that for mind blown moment......oh and we did play the song and the keyboardist sang it. It's a strange world out there!

That’s a great song and one of only two Little Feat songs I play. And yeah, small world and cool story.

I whip out "Waiting for Columbus" occasionally. Little Feat had some great songwriting and greasy slinky grooves. On this recording, I get a little tired of the constant phase shifters on the guitars and the cheezy analog synth sounds, which is a real shame as the performances are great.

But wait, the guy was a road manager for Zappa in the 60's and is still alive and performing? That's pretty impressive. Not Dick Barber is it?

Why yes it is Richard Barber! He even complemented me on my leads on a nice slow tune we did.

Great story! Must have been a hellava good time! I've been playing Willin' since I first heard Little Feat's debut album circa 1970. My favorite band of all time- phase shifters and all!!

I discovered "Willin'" through Seatrain. And discovered "Easy to Slip" through Bob Weir. Late to the Little Feat party for sure.

    Sounds like a great weekend!

For me Linda Ronstadt's cover is the high water mark for WILLIN. Yeah great weekend... Better be I had to drive to 900 miles one way. But my sister in law is the big organizer for the fundraiser..... The fundraiser is to fight Vegas from trying to claim the water and run a pipeline to carry the valleys water to Vegas.... Lots of ranchers in the valley... It's a big deal!
