I just saw Stone Temple Pilots, Bush, and The Cult.

It was really good. Unfortunately STP got cut short due to a thunder storm, but as long as they played they were fantastic. The new singer sounds a lot like Scott Weiland.

How's The Cult sounding these days? One of my favorite bands back in the 80s, and heck, now, too. So many great songs...Billy Duffy helped to keep it rockin...and those vocals!

They played and sounded great. Just like back in the day. Ian's voice was great, and Billy Duffy's guitar sound was HUGE! He (of course) played a big Gretsch hollow body.

Was a massive fan of bush backin the day, how were they?

How was the StP bass player?

Yep. Electric still gets heavy play on my ipod. I mowed many a yard to that cassette. Flipped it over to Love for a different vibe.

Man the times were good back then.

I saw The Cult open for Billy Idol back around 86. That show kicked ass.

And I've tried to keep current with The Cult- every few years I'm surprised to find they've had a new release, and I'm also surprised at how damn good it is.

But yeah, The Cult + Rick Rubin, that was something special.

STP was amazing all the way around. They sounded really good. As I said I was disappointed that they got cut short, but that's the way it goes sometimes with an outdoor venue.

Bush rocked HARD! I was very impressed. They really nailed it, and the sound mix was really good too.

I took my 16 year old son with me, and the only Bush song he knew was Glycerine, but he left the show saying that he really liked them, and was impressed as well. I guess they have a new fan.

He really dug STP as well. He even bought a STP shirt.

I remember Duffy playing that White Falcon on Wildflower right in front of me & being dumbfounded by the size of it.

Kid Chaos on bass too. They effing rocked.

They were pretty badass! I loved Duffy's guitar sound. It was freakin HUGE!

I am borderline obsessed on how Wildflower is the *perfect* Cult tune

    I also love this remix

That version suffers from the lack of discipline (efficiency) of Rubins mix, IMO, still very cool to listen to and watch

Ian actually did vocals for "Doors" shows, right?
If I'm remembering that wrong, it'd still have made perfect sense to me

Another likely contender for the Lizard King, redux:

STP without Weiland is a different band. They might be a good band, but it's not STP. He was a force. So much charisma as a performer. Damn ****ing shame.

Bush ->Gavin Rossdale ->Daisy Lowe ->happy thoughts ...:D she’s better known than her dad in the U.K. as a model and celeb ( she did well on Strictly - that’s Dancing with the Stars I believe in the USA).

Long time since I saw The Cult, I think the first was the Electric tour and then later on. Great memories.

You remember correctly. He did play with "The Doors Of The 21st Century" (featuring Astbury, Robby Kreiger, and Ray Manzarek) in 2002.

    This is truth.

But I do like this version of STP as well.

I agree with your observation blowtorch, but I also kind of like the raw and slightly ragged aspect of this version. Wildflower was often my sound check riff. Electric is easily in my top 10 or 15 albums of all time.

I saw Duffy with the Kings Of Chaos, he was a monster. Robert De Leo on bass, and Chester Bennington singing lead. That kid really nailed the Cult stuff they did. Hell, he nailed everything. Another huge talent that I miss the hell out of.

Exactly blowtorch. Live they were always really loose. That's the appeal to being there.

5 Seasons Center! Saw many a show there. Always stopping at the last truck stop on our way into CR was a scene out of Heavy Metal Parking Lot.
