Longtime hobby player and I hate pedals.

All they do is distract me, add confusion, more cables, wall warts, and batteries.

I plug one in then enjoy it for a while, then it's annoying. I get lost playing with settings, then it goes back into the drawer.

    Never fails.

    I hate them.

Guitar to cable to a good amp...

That's how it should be, IMHO :D

I hate having to unplug them every time I use them! my god, drives me nuts. I go thru so many 9v batteries. Some don't even last very long after only being plugged for so long.

How do people with boards deal with all the madness? I simply hate plugging and unplugging the things. I hate bending down and having to do that. Why oh why can't I hire someone to do that for me, and to pour beer in my mouth too?

That's how it should be for you. The rest of us who so choose to can put up with their limitations and enjoy what we can do with them. Nothing's for everyone.

    .

Build a board to strap then down on, mount a power strip to it, use a wall-wart daisy chain to power them, short connections to each pedal, and rock on.

Embrace the clean, magnificent sound of guitar to amp!

do you have a pic as an example? where do you find all the different ac adaptors because all the pedals seem to run at either different voltages or different amperages or have different grounds (center pin, etc), just seems like a total PITA trying to find all those connections for each pedal.

Buy a voodoo lab pedal power and build a pedal board. Attach the voodoo lab pedal power and then attach all your pedals in the proper order. Then attach power from the pedal power to each pedal and plug all the pedals into one another in the proper order.

Then you won't ever have to mess with 9v batteries anymore. No more wallwarts. Just ONE power cable to rule them all, one power cable to find them. One power cable to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.

But I just don't like effects.

They're like heavy makeup on a pretty woman.

    Not necessary.

Certain types of music and songs require a different sound than just a guitar and amp. Even if they are good. Think of how dinky certain songs and genres would sound without certain effects.

Everything was fine, until you wrote "That's how it should be." That kind of thinking breeds fundamentalism. As someone else said, that's how it should be FOR YOU.

    Let's turn it around -

Not a longtime hobby player. Was a working musician for over twenty years.

All pedals do it help me access multiple tones/sounds

I plug one in, and enjoy using it for its added diversity

    Never fails

    I love them

Guitar to pedals to a good amp...

    That's how it should be.

Now see, I've just implied you should do as I do. That my way, is *the* way.

I like guitars, I like the sound of some overdrive from a Timmy, SD9, DS1 or maybe some phase/flange or wha pedal. I also like electronics, I can get the layout and parts list for most pedals off the web and build my own... Then I can power them from my daisy chained power supply. What's not to like?

i'm looking at your board. looks nice. but what is the purpose of the pedals sitting on what look like wood ribs to raise them off the board? and how do you affix them to the board?

It is all about creating music. Use the tools that make your music your own.

Think Jimi Hendrix as an example.
