It took 25 years, but I am finally done. No more guitars for me.

I have finally reached the level of Nirvana that even God aspires to. I have a guitar from each of the top four most iconic guitar manufacturers. What's more, I have the top guitar - the flagship model - from each of those four iconic guitar manufacturers!

(OK, you can debate whether the Les Paul or the SG is Gibson's flagship model, but I fall on the side that the SG is Gibson's greatest guitar.)

Well, here they are. The top guitar from each of the top four iconic guitars companies. I am now officially finished buying guitars. Peace at last. I have reached Nirvana. I will now get into a lotus position and play these beauties. God will be bored by my playing because I am only a rhythm guitarist, but I don't care.

Top four guitars, from top four guitar manufacturers:

    Gibson SG
    Fender Stratocaster
    Gretsch White Falcon
    Rickenbacker 360 12 string

    I don't see a Telecaster there... ;)

    No Tele?
    Well congrats. Nice little family.
But what do you have to slum with?

You are missing a tele, les paul, and a 335. The les paul needs to be a goldtop with p90's.

I would add a 6120 to my list too.

Sorry buddy. It never ends. :)

Firstly, the Telecaster should easily replace the Strat, that's a no brainer. Everything that encompasses the idea of a guitar, from inception, is the Telecaster.

Secondly, no one is ever done buying guitars. There will be more, trust me.

Thirdly, the highest echelon of each company's product line means nothing - how they play, sound and feel to YOU means everything. I've known people who would much rather have their Squire or Epiphone over any Fender or Gibson they've played, simply because of the sound and feel it provides them. My wife has a client who absolutely HATES her Bentley, wants her Mustang back.

Personally I want a White Falcon because it has always been my Holy Grail. Not only because of what it means in the guitar world, but mostly because I'm in love with its tone and playability, but that's just me. Many people can't stand them.

Nice guitars but I was curious what you would consider the "flagship" model of a Tele - there seem to be so many favourites out there - is that why there is no tele? ;-)

Funny what people consider great. I wouldn't let the Rick or the SG through the door. Just my opinion. Lovely Gretsch, though.

I do have a Telecaster. The ugly as sin Joe Strummer model.

I know this is a Telecaster forum, but let's be honest here, folks. Yes, the Tele is a superb instrument, but it is not Fender's flagship model. The Stratocater is.

The SG may be iconic, but I think it's fair to say that the L-5 is Gibson's ultimate model. But you have the White Falcon instead for anything that requires a hollowbody anyway :p Congratulations.

You yourself stated the SG is Gibson's greatest, when the vast majority of people would say it's the Les Paul. So you're using your personal opinions on the matter, which is what I did regarding the Tele over the Strat. Honestly this feels like a "look how much spending power I have" thread to me. Meh...

I totally agree. And that's why I bought myself a Gibson SG rather than a Gibson Les Paul. The Les Paul in most circles (including Gibson Inc.'s board rooms) is the flagship Gibson model. But for me, the SG is the better player, better sound, better looking, better everything.

Got to agree there. I'm all for Teles, but the Strat is not only Fender's flagship model, but probably the most famous electric guitar there is.

Wrong. And math clearly is not your strong suit.

I said in my first post it took me twenty-five years to acquire those guitars. Roughly, it's about eight thousand dollars worth of guitars. Over twenty-five years that comes down to saving just 32 dollars a year. Wow, I sure have tremendous spending power. I socked away an entire $32 a year. I'm a regular Donald Trump, ain't I?

Actually, it comes down to saving $320 a year...

Very nice modest collection, all high quality examples, but you've opened yourself up to a lot of opinions here as to what the greatest guitars are, especially as this is the Telecaster forum.

Of course, the only thing that matters is that you're pleased with your instruments, not what anyone else here thinks. :D

Wow, you are certifiably nuts (or certifiably deaf.) You don't love the gorgeous jingle and jangle that comes from a 12 string Ric? You don't love the angry growl and bite that comes from a Gibson SG?

    Yeah, you're right.
But you know what $320 a year means? That's about 80 cents a day.
Wow, I'm a regular Donald Trump.

    Exactly.
And you want to know a secret?
My cheapo Epiphone Casinos are miles above those four in many departments in my opinion.

God is a Christian concept, Christians do not aspire to Nirvana, its basis is in Indian religions, and it is not a state you bestow upon yourself or decide you have achived.
And you certianly do not achive it in the guise of worldy goods. Your offhanded use of the term and other related concepts in this way could be construed as insulting to true practictioners of those religions.

Perhaps to say you have decided on a few nice guitars would be more reflective of the actual situation.
