Guess Jimi didn't see this video.
I’ve tried manufacturer specs as a starting point but I always end up with them significantly lower. Pickups this high always seem to hot for my taste.
That might be a start .... Or stack two nickels on the pole pieces to the strings.
but here's the true way to dial in the correct height:
best video...so simple
I watched all 6 of those videos a year or so ago , interesting how joe grabs any guitar off the shelf and starts , I also read ( years ago in guitar player mag,) that Joe had a degree in electronics and would mod his fender amps at the time by rmoving some resisters to give him more out put or some thing to that effect , it was a strange mod. I wish i still had that issue.
Gibson's r so simple..once you get your neck relief..it really is a mater of taking action to a lil buzz and then bringing up to the height you like then balancing the pickups..i do all mine every season as the weather changes and never had any of the issues that i hear about Gibson..very rarely out of tune but i play my guitars almost evry day and each nite pick one to go over in a nightly rotation
I post these as I get them in case some one with , limited knowledge needs a point of refference not as a matter of debate, there is wayyyyyyy too much negative crap on this site right now , so its nice to have some basic info for those who might need it
Nickel bass, dime treble
that was the vid that helped me balance the pups..great watch..joe is funny and i revisited his early stuff..very good,,,way more appreciation now then when i was a kid
he's a really smart educated guy , but you can see the drug induced damage , too bad cause he can really play . I always liked his album "the smoker you drink the player you get"
Oh yeah, could someone tell me what this title means?
Timely as I got a new-to-me 2017 Fender CP 60s Stratocaster this week and a guitar workstation (mat and guitar-specific tools) in order to setup this weekend-ish.
Different pickups need different settings, different players have different tastes.
Staggered pole pickups on a 12" radius neck will need to be much lower than recommended settings.
I think it means the same as:
I would rather have a full bottle in front of me than a pre-frontal lobotomy
That has always been my take on it. It's like string gauge and action, there is no one size fits all.
I would rather have a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy
It's a play on words, you have to use the correct ones.
