My experience with Moisture Resistant Lacquer is that it sprays great, but yellows much faster than LOVOC or HiBild. I have some 4 year old products with Moisture Resistant lacquer that have changed colors. 1 powder blue guitar is now a really cool greenish color because the MR lacquer has changed color so much. Other than that, its a good product, and more check resistant than hiBild.

I applied what you posted here and used the Behlens Vinyl Sealer and Behlens Instrument Lacquesr with great results.

After the last coat of lacquer was put on (3 coats total) I hand sanded 600-800-1200-1500-2000 grit wet sand. Then hand buffed with one of the Meguires "Ultimate Compund"

Very happy with how the lacquer finish came out.

Colt, is there any reason you couldn't spray a couple coats of lacquer to use as a sealer, instead of the vinyl sealer you normally use?

    Thanks.

Read through this whole thread and wanted to chime in.
Thanks to Colt for all the help and effort in this thread. Awesome stuff.

I went to the local SW Industrial Coatings shop to see about the products in this thread.

Walk-in price was pretty steep, but the set me up with a "cash account" and I got the following:

    LOVOC $38.70/ga
    Vinyl Sealer $41.75/gl
    K27 $24.90/gal

    I'm satisfied with that.
Now gotta go learn to spray it.

How long will the SW vinyl and LOVOC shrink?

Can't remember if it was in this thread, but I was surprised to find that Deff is indeed nitro & not poly. I was assured by many finishing people at various stores that you can't get it off shelves in my state. I was steered to Mowhawk nitro in a can by a builder in my area, found easily, before being pointed out here that Deff is too. No big.

I've ended up with 3 nice guns & a few airbrushes in a trade. Time to start with the colors!

you know any respirator that is good and filter nitro for a lower price ?

Colt can you tell us what the ratio of clear nitro and nitro thinner is ? Many cans say 50/50 but i got problems sparying it then its tooooo thin...
Or it can be a good ratio but me spraying too thick the first passes hmm...

Last I heard from Colt he is very busy and hasn't been on forums much. If it is any help to you, the ratio I used 1/3 thinner, 2/3 lacquer in my cheap sprayer.

If you wanted a solid colour with no grain showing through, would you just put more of the pigment in? I want to finish a telecaster in this colour... http://www.musiccitypickers.com/197...telecaster-in-original-classic-olympic-white/

Im not this "colt" fellow... but...

Yes there is a reason. The nitro will gas off and get absorbed into the wood. The vinyl sealer has a much higher solids content and will not "soak in" like the nitro will. So if oyu tried to use nitro it would take you many many many months of spraying and waiting, or just use 2 coats of sealer and be done lol

Close to finished pic from Colt. He says he's busy working on his PhD and needs to stop fooling around with guitars.
