When did Fender switch from Alnico III magnets to Alnico V magnets (1955?) ? When did Fender Telecasters and their pickups become country TWANGERS ??? How are the 50's Telecaster Alnico V pickups differen't in tone vs. 60's Telecaster Alnico V pickups ? How much difference is the early 70's Fender Telecaster Alnico V pickups in tone ?

cut n pasted from a Google search using ( provide net "telecaster" )

    First years, 1950 to:
    were Broadcasters - which turned into N0-Caster ~wire 43 Alnico-3~

wire 43 did not last more then a year and was swapped out for wire 42
and the Name Telecaster came to be

Alnico 3 was used with 42 - until 54 when Alnico 5 Staggered poles came to be the norm.

some where in late 5o's white cotton string was used over black string

then in the 60's the Grey Bottoms appeared...

then they went back to black string in the 70's

in the 80's we seen, Black Bobbins, flat pole alnico 5's with black rope..

so you have 7 or 8 versions over the years..
( Briefly there was a Red Bottom in mid 80's too I heard those can sound great)

the individual names were more less made up by players,

    I hope this helps..

and as a disclaimer - time lines are very hard to nail down, Ive just done my best with time lines - but I'm not firm on them.. ok
