Western swing is basically country + jazz, and this one swung toward the jazzy side. Actually, labels aside, it's just good fun Americana music. My old sidekick Tom Kuhn helped me out on bass. ... Any mix observations, critiques or analysis welcomed!

It's a swinger,Woodman. Damn fine jazzy licks and sweet, boingy baritone. I'm gonna build me one of those some day.

It's as comfy as a pair of old well worn boots. :)

Well done as usual, great feel and playing and the production is polished. Personally, I would like to hear the vocals a tad bit dryer, to give them more immediacy, maybe a little bit more bottom for some heft, but that's a taste thing, and you are serving up a very tasty tune.

Appreciate the comments, guys! I was going for the old-timey barroom-shuffle vibe with an ironic touch of postmodern existentialism.

Thanks, Mark — the vocals were my main misgiving too ... the primary ambience is slapback echo for that Memphis thang, with a touch of ambient reverb across the board to get the feeling of a medium-to-large nightclub. Looking at my settings and listening back, I think you might be on to something. Also, from a mid/side viewpoint, I wondered if there might be intrusive midrange squawk from the sides (guitars mainly, piano a little bit). Gonna revisit the mix now that the dust has settled from my recent OS upgrade and SSD installation. Will repost.
