    Hello, everyone.

My name is, Mike, and I'm mainly a bass player, although I've tried to keep my feet in the guitar world all my life.

I don't play guitar that well, but this time, I'm determined to get better.

I'm not bad at lead and riffs, but terrible at changing chords fast.

Think of the beginning of the Song, "House of The Rising Sun," and that's about my maximum speed.

Anyway, looking forward to talking, learning and trading information with you all.

    I'm also an amateur photographer.

    A few examples attached.

    This is a good site.

    Mike ;)

I’m working at JFK this week and staying at the Crowne Plaza JFK, so does that make us neighbours?

    Welcome to the TDPRI.

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone.

Ftbtx, I haven't been to Bayside in a few years, but maybe we'll meet there one day.

Tery, the top photo is a dusk shot of the Thai Rock cafe/The Bungalow Bar in Rockaway Beach. I'll elaborate more tomorrow.

Ira7, Kew Gardens is not far from me. Do you remember the Austin Ale House?

PeterUK, yes, we are very close neighbors, very close! When you say you are woking at JFK this weekend, do you mean you're giging there?

Also thanks for the welcome, brookdalebill, telestratosonic and Telebrew.

    Talk later.

    Mike

Rockaway Beach was nothing like that when we left in 1975. I grew up in Howard Beach and my wife is from Flushing.

It was called Bailey's before Austin Ale House! (Did you know that's where Kitty Genovese was murdered? In back by the LIRR.)

There used to be a dump bar called Side Street, a nice place Gentleman Jim Corbett's, and the infamous Salty Dog on Metropolitan Avenue.

    I love talking about bars.

No, my real job is working in baggage. Following the burst water main and the problems that caused in January 2018 I’m helping to put in new processes and technology to prevent it from happening again.

I ride my bicycle through Howard Beach almost every weekend.

Down 92nd street to 165th Avenue, over the North Channel Bridge, through Broad Channel down to the toll boths, and sometimes over the Veteran's Memorial Bridge, into Rockaway, and to the Marine Parkway Bridge. Now, the Gil Hodges Bridge.

I assume you remember New Park Pizza?

I'll post some pictures when I find them.

    Small world.

    Mike ;)

The restaurant closest to you in the first photo, is the Thai Rock Café.

Very nice place, great food, friendly owner and lots of music.
    https://thairock.us/inside/

Not always Blues, but always good.

The place on the far side, is the Bungalow Bar.

    Also, great food, and music.

Sometimes, in the summer, there are 500 people here.

I took the photo from the bridge in the background at the Bungalow site.

Perhaps some of us will meet up down at both of these places sometime.
