As I recall, Duplicolor is lacquer....can I assume nitro clear is compatible?

Which Duplicolor is reasonably close to:

    Dakota Red
    Fiesta Red
    Vintage White
    Olympic White

    Thanks

    Tom

I've used various Duplicolour rattle cans for past projects. The stuff I've used was acylic lacquer. I don't know if it is compatible with nitro, so why not just use Diplicolour clear over top?

I used Duplicolor Medium Maui Blue metalic on this. It has Minwax lacquer clear coat. It sorta looks like Lake Placid Blue. The Duplicolor offerings I've seen are nice but don't really look that much like the original Fender colors. Guitar Re-ranch does a better job of that.

    I don't understand this quote.

You can use Nitrocellulose lacquer over top of duplicolor.

I was using Duplicolor Oly. White as a primer layer today and the can just WOULD NOT STOP SPATTERING, no matter what I did. It was awful. I wrote Duplicolor about it. I warmed the can, cleaned the tip, even tried another tip, and the paint kept coming out in globs.

I doubt they all behave like that but man it was frustrating. I'm glad it was just a primer coat or I'd have been pissed.

When you finally get tired of that S$%#, you buy a spray gun.

Aerosols are just so unpredictable. You just never know how old they are or if they been stored in temp. extremes or hot cold flucuations. Or some kid could have just sprayed a bit out at the store which will cause the can to clog up later.

Whenever you spray from a can, you need to clear the nozzle before and after use.

Before spraying lacquer over Dupli-Color you have to make sure
    the Dupli-Color is very dry.

A couple of weeks ago I sprayed lacquer over Dupli-Color
Metalcast that had dried for three days and the lacquer crinkled.

I redid the finish, and let the Dupli-Color dry for a week in a warm
room before spraying lacquer on top. Seems okay this time.

I'm going to do it with a spray gun next time, like Colt suggests,
so I don't have to worry about these kinds of incompatibilities.

Duplicolor clear is now available in quart cans at Auto Barn. I like to think of the descriptions in the first Crossroads auction catalogue where Clapton is said to have ordered special colors to match the paint on a car, for instance a charcoal grey Mercedes. So it stands to reason that the Duplicolor cans are a great way to go - from early Fender offerings of Dupont car paint colors to today's autoparts store. I use them on stomp boxes, too, but be careful to let it dry before handling or it will wrinkle.

Hmm... I have never had that problem. Make you wonder if Duplicolor is switching over from acrylic lacquer to enamel like a lot of car paints.

The fact that these spray cans get reformulated from time to time
seems another good reason to get a spray rig.

You should have heard the curse words resonate through the holler when I discovered Krylon switched over to enamel.

The DupliColor Perfect Match line is an acrylic lacquer and has no problems being overcoated with nitro. But you have to be careful what you pick off the shelf, seems most of their color line is enamel and that you will have problems with overcoating with nitro.

Sounds like duplicolor is following the trend and switching over to enamel. Looks like do it yourself guitar builders are going to start having to use spray equipment.

Just finishing this Tele project with Duplicolour and its great to work with.
No problems here, although the relicing is optional.
