Hand washing etiquette... you ever tell someone to wash their hands?

I walked into a public restroom today. There was a guy in a stall... pants around ankles... talking loudly on the phone. About the time I stepped to the urinal, he got off the phone.

I finished my business. Walked to the sink. Was washing my hands when...

...this guy opens his stall door... and walked right out. I wanted to say, "Hey man... wash your hands!" But I didn't.

Should I have? Do we as a developed civilization any duty or responsibility to address these people in any way at all?

What was his age comparative to yours? Younger, same or older?

What was the nature of his phone call? Funny, pointed, or angry?

If you were having lunch at a restaurant, and that guy is the cook, it's a good thing you didn't say anything, no telling what might have happened!

Who exited first? Was he somewhat of a bodybuilder?

I always wash, then always think. Why do we wash after touching our junk? Shouldn't we do it before?

This kind of thinking is why I hate to shake hands.

"Hey you forgot to dry your hands."

    "I didn't wash them"

I'm 46. He appeared to be late 20s.

Sounded like his call was business related... "Thank you for bringing that to my attention, I'll take care of it as soon as I return to the office..." blah blah blah.

    Two things come to mind.

If it was actually a cook, I would hope that not only did he wash his hands before leaving the bathroom and hopefully once again when he reached the kitchen.

Before one actually makes it to the sink you already have pulled up your pants, tucked in the shirt and then buckled your belt.

    Then you wash your hands..

when my kids were little, I did. After watching Deadwood... I don't really feel like I have the moral authority, the sanitary authority to command anyone to do anything. We touch our own faces like a couple hundred times a day... we are pretty much all filth except for the scrubby nutjobs who are actually more annoying to me than the grubby guy who wipes his hands on his jeans...

You did the right thing. By doing nothing at all*

I mostly wash my hands unless i'm taking a leak on the side of the road on a job. I wash them when I can soon after.
They do say that urine is sterile? If that's the case then I guess it doesn't much matter if you wash your hands unless you have some kind of condition going on down there. I'd still like to think everyone I come in contact with washes their hands though.

Maybe he just likes to air things out while taking calls?

I don't like touching anything in public rest rooms, I kick the door open if I can rather than touch it.
