Hey, now you can take out a loan in her name!!
I think you did the right thing. I always say that if you raise your voice, you've lost the argument. In addition, she was a paying (if extremely irritating) customer.
Here in the UK, people aren't quite so litigious and don't always resort to making public liability claims as a first resort. However, as someone who has worked in the insurance profession for 38 years, that is the general direction of travel as insurers are seen, wrongly, as a bottomless money pit.
Keeping calm in the face of provocation is never easy. The best thing to do, I believe, is to remain polite, focused and calm. Never get into heated debates, make notes and have CCTV footage and witnesses who will corroborate what actually happened / what was said. It's difficult to argue against hard evidence.
Crazy is not age related.....I taught high school for 35 years.....
That's crazy right there! 24 here, this being my last year before retirement (I was 40 when I started).
Kudo's for not putting your foot up her azz on the way out.
Not all elderly people are nice .In the 60;s I was walking down my local main shopping street minding own business when an old guy comes up ,yanks my not very long hair ,and screams 'fuc*ing Mick Jagger " in my ear .
I once had an elderly lady argue over the phone with me about the fact my companies website did not allow her to be on her phone and the website at the same time. This was on a one phone line dial up connection back in the day. It took awhile to even get to that point because she kept telling me she was connected to the internet and other pages were working fine wasn't until she put her kid on that we got a real answer that she had dial up and obviously nothing would work while not connected, then she got back on the line and was mad about it telling us to fix it because she needs to make calls while using the site.
That is awesome! I’m a web dev by day and I thought I had heard them all but that one is new. There is no winning that argument but definitely leaves you with a great tale to tell.
Yes i find with hard to understand or rude people they usually are the same with all so not to treat it to personally. The nature of the beast i suppose.
Do people get that old?
inappropriate for TDPRI, for sure.
guess you're probably ok
I have all sorts of stories and I have to keep my cool and not making people feel silly, I had one person buy a microphone (usb but music style mic not even a headset type pc thing) and then tell me it didn't work. I went to look at it it was working fine in sound recorder and skype but i had no idea why they didn't buy a headset mic then the guy says no look, opens up an audio file from a meeting, holds the mic at the screen and starts asking where the speakers are maybe it will work if he points it at the speakers directly. Turns out he had some recordings of meetings he wanted to make louder (his pc just had a crappy in built speaker) and he bought the microphone to do that. Only thing i can think of is he thought it was like a megaphone and if you talk through it/play sound through it i makes it amplified or something. Had to tell him to return it and just buy some bigger speakers or just send me the audio and i'll raise the volume of it for him. It was hard to keep a straight face because i had no idea why he was waving the mic at his monitor
