Another vote for PJ. They're 20+ years strong, and still going.

Didn't think so. You can't quantify rock and roll. It's ridiculous to try.

Three dog night might have been overlooked and that is absurd

Yes too many to call out the best... they are all the best

Is Zebra an American band? ...why yes it is :D

Goodbye to all my friends at home
    Goodbye to people I've trusted
I've got to go out and make my way
I might get rich, you know, I might get busted
But my heart keeps calling me backwards
As I get on the 707
Riding high, I got tears in my eyes
You know you got to go through hell before you get to heaven

Shoulda called this thread 'Can Of Worms'...

We should debate what ratio of 'rock' to 'roll' every band mentioned above is made up of.

We will need more wine and beer.

Jet Airliner was written by and recorded in 1973 by Paul Pena. If you are curious to hear the original, it should be easy enough to find. Warning! If you listen to Pena's original version, it may ruin the Steve Miller version for you permanently.

I first heard Paul Pena perform it on the old Late Night with Conan O'brien show in 2001. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dnGj5YF8F0

It introduced me to Mother's Finest. That's a good enough reason for it to exist.

best is pretty subjective, so I'll just point out that it's worth mentioning NRBQ has made consistently great music since 1969, and Wilco is still carving out their legacy...
