Just picked up one of these recently for a very good price, as I love the antique burst Squier Stds and I was looking for a nice Tele to suit as a spare/guitar for tough gigs.

A quick fret dress, new nut, dropped a spare set of Lawrence Keystones and a four way switch in and this is ready to go. Might swap the saddles out for some stainless steel ones I have, and see if they work better. Otherwise this guitar has a great vibe, nice neck, nice weight and it fills the gap in my Telecaster collection for one with a six saddle bridge.

I tried a black pickguard on it and can't quite decide what looks best?! I know it's a bit shallow, but a pickguard change is barely 15 minutes with a screwdriver;-)

I like the tortoiseshell. It adds contrast to the pickup.

    Good luck. I love mine.

Nice to see some standards again lately... The Standard is down to two colours (vintage blonde, and this antique burst). A few years ago we still had the black and candy apple red. Just a pity all the "fun" colours are reserved for the Affinity. I'd rather have it the other way around: I'd rather have the Affinity only in BSB, black and Sunburst, and the standard in a set of nice colours and a choice of maple or indian laurel neck.

This looks good though! I prefer the black pickguard.

Standards are really nice Teles. I have several and love the necks, and the original pickups are really very nice. Did you try those out before the swap?
BTW, I like the black PG better.

So do I! I love the standards pickups. I wouldn't change them at all...

I prefer the black pick guard, but the white outline of the 3-ply ruins it for me. Solid black would look much better. The tort is too busy for that beautiful finish.

Another vote for the black PG, nice contrast to the body.

I originally got "Indonesia Red" as a "poor man's alternative" to a "Muddy Waters Signature" I no longer think about the big dollar one at all.
Put a set of 11's on a Squier Standard and She'll come to life.
11 gauge strings is the only mod I've done...when I realized how great She was I thought about swapping pickups but have come to love the stock pickups.

Nothing else will get changed. EVER.

I like the black pick guard. Tort can tend to "mother of toilet seat"

"for tough gigs". Where do you play, exactly?!

Nice guitar! I prefer the tort, for what it's worth.
