    Yup.

    A monster.

    Regular and baritone necks.

Anybody have any idea on what I should make the distance between necks? Longitudinal centerline to centerline.

    That seems critical.

    Everything else is just details.

    Thanks much

I think that you should maybe look up the detials on the Fender custom shop double neck strat from about 1989. This was a one off but might be a good resource?

    ...sounds like an interesting project.
I think something to consider is not only how far apart to make the necks but also at what angle to make them.

I think double neck SGs have the necks almost parallel but other makers, like Hamer splay them a bit so that rather than having to stretch down to use the second neck you just tilt the guitar up and the guitar strap will slide around your back...making the second position as comfortable to play as the first.
    (hope that makes sense)

Here's a cropping from the Warmoth picture. You know the neck pocket is 3 inches long. You should be able to determine the distance between the neck pockets. Get it right or you'll be making your own pickguard. That's probably the best idea anyway.

I still wonder why someone would want to build such a monstrosity ............. must be the challenge.

I get 2.525 in. between neck pockets. Add 2 3/16 in. for centerlines.

oh wow I can feel this is going to be intense.

Look at the warmoth doublenecks. You should be able to get a general picture

    Good luck!

Have you considered an angle between the two necks. One benifit is more clearance for tuners without a large distance between heels. Another is the radial feel between shifting necks. The guitar rotates a bit rather than reaching for a parallel neck axis. Just a thought.

You make some good points but tuner clearance is not a problem with Telecaster necks

I vote (not that I have a vote) parallel.. it will look great and it will play just fine. Angled looks too rube goldberg.

Also, angled would probably make it more tricky aligining the bridge, etc. The desigin would definitely be more difficult.

I'm all for the idea! My dream partscaster is the P-bass/strat doubleneck body from warmoth. I want to see how this would work out!

    Well, why not?

I hadn't even thought about checking out the old Warmoth site. That will be a good reference.

    Pickguard WILL be interesting.

There won't be ANYTHING fast about this.

It is a for-sure summertime project. I am just trying to do some homework.

Remember the Ramans? They always did things in threes.

    That's a joke.

But there will have to be at least two.

First one will have to have masonite/mdf "goof up the cheap stuff" body.

Thanks for all of the ideas kids.

this might give you some ideas

hey buck, not sure if you've seen these pics or not but Danny Gatton had himself a double neck (one bass VI, one regular) tele made and you can check it out here, just scroll down and you'll see it.
    http://www.dannygatton.com/guitars.html

the body shape may not be what your looking for but it gives you a rough possibility for a layout.

Looks to me like your project would be much like the Danny Gatton double-neck. Your lower neck would just be a little shorter.

I'd go with PDF for the cheap body. :)

This should be cool. Please take lots of pics.
