I totally agree. The only one I picked up was easily worse than any Bullet series Squier. Really, really cheap feeling and obvious flaws. I got to talking with the tech there and asked him if he'd checked one out. He did not have kind words to say about them either to put it mildly.

But they say that this stunning Firebird Zero was designed with rigorous standards of quality and innovation. It is Made in USA, with American craftsmanship that is second to none, featuring superior quality, tone, and playability, and a unique design that will make heads turn.

    Gibson has no shame.

I hate those Zero's with a passion, appropriately named indeed.

    I sure wouldn't call it a Firebird!

When I was in NY GC about 5 weeks back, I managed to check out one. Picked it up, inspected it, gave it a quick go, and immediately felt disappointed. The feeling I got was a cheap, sub-par instrument that does the Gibson brand no favours.

What a shame. They somehow managed to devalue the Gibson name even further.

Ouch- I have not played one but I am amazed that they can offer and American guitar at $450,,,shame they didn't just make it one pickup and make it a bit better.

I got one REALLY CHEAP...It was a Return that supposedly had finish flaws. I couldn't find one on it.

I XXXX Steel Wooled the neck, polished the frets.
Put some Schaller Mini's on it. Swapped out the nut. Added a Wilkinson Bridge.
(THE ORIGINAL BRIDGE IS TOO HIGH)
Loaded it with GFS MEAN 90's. (I put the original Double Slugs in one of my Epi SG's - Great Sounding Hard Rock Pick Ups)

Added some Stove Hats and a Decal. It now has the "Vibe" I was going for. Plays good, sounds good.
Is it a Firebird? Nah... More like a light Gibson RD. It reminds me of the the old Gibson Melody Makers.
I like that its light. I have enough heavy Gibson Les Pauls.

So, the only money I dropped into it after buying it was the GFS Mean 90's. But the Double Slugs went to good use. I just wanted this to have more of a Southern Rock Vibe. ;)

Hate to see Gibson cheapening their name.
But it is USA built, and as Fendergyrl pointed out, you can turn it into a player.
Maybe it will work out, I’ve been wrong plenty of times before.

I didn't mind the ones I played. They all needed setups pretty badly, but so does absolutely everything at GC.

Definitely not a Top Of The Line Gibson. If you can score one CHEAP and have parts, and like Rebuilding / Setting Up guitars ...well, ya know.
Gibson really should have given "a little more skin" if they were going to push these, as well as their sister SG's and Paul's.
This is the first Gibson I bought just to rebuild. (Other than Basket Case Gibsons) o_O
I had to tell my friend that if he bought one ... it wasn't gonna play and sound like mine. :p
Mine has Heavy Bottom / Light Top Ernie Ball Slinkys on it.

FYI : I have a thread in OTHER GUITARS & INSTRUMENTS that shows mine all broken down. You can see whats under the hood, etc. Just Sayin....

    .

I tried one in a store to see what it was and ... "disappointed" is a good description.

It had the feeling that wavered between 'how cheap can we make it' and 'we need to make sure we don't offer something to compete with or make buyers question our high end guitars'. Purposeful cheap not accidental cheap ... and disappointement.

The paint job is what looked so poor to me in person.

About the same quality as when Tom Sawyer tricked Huck Finn into
    painting the fence. :D:D

Funny, the naming. Zero. Almost like a Freudian slip or something. We know we are worthless...

Yeah, the finish on these is really thin Nitro. You can see the grain thru it. I did notice that the body on mine is one solid piece of wood. It would probably look good sanded down and finished in clear...but I ain't goin' there. It is what it is.

Its funky, but that's why I like it. My next Funky Guitar is going to be a St Vincent. :D

The GFS Mean 90's sound great thru my VOX AC15.

Can you send a link to your thread?
I’ve been looking, but can’t find it.
I can barely see and my one eye tires very quickly.
So I apologize for the request, but I’d like to get a look under the hood.
    Thanks

They can go to the trouble and expense of making these....but not LP Juniors or Melody Makers?
