It's a hollow body with the stock ACH-1 and ACH-2 pickups in it. I find them muddy with no definition. I had another Artcore guitar a while ago and I replaced the stock pickups (ACH-1 and ACH-2) with a set of GFS Liverpool Retrotrons, and the guitar really came alive and I loved the sound. BUT, in the process, it lost its "hollow body tone", if that makes any sense. That woody midrange that only occurs on those types of guitars was evident with the stock ACH-1 and ACH-2 pickups, but sort of disappeared with the GFS Liverpool Retrotrons.

I'm looking for input from anyone who has used different GFS PAF-sized replacement pickups with hollow body guitars, who can tell me if there are any GFS offerings that will bring clarity to the notes without losing that special hollow body tone. And yes, I'd like to stay with GFS as they are affordable and I've had great results from them. THANKS!

I've been thinking of trying some surf 90's in mine, but haven't done it yet.

Surf 90 is nice in the neck, but I thought it lacked some midrange in the bridge position.

Totally agree about the Surf 90. Nice in the neck...not so good in the bridge.

I actually went totally ghetto bought no-name pickups off eBay for about $15 each. Sounds pretty good! I didn't have the $$$ to splurge on GFS this time. I know that sounds asinine....

Thanks I was going for a poor man's Duesenberg look with the pickups. And I mean real poor since they're even more inexpensive than GFS.

That's a nice groove with the band, and a great sound on the guitar.

I love my AS-83 since I installed the Seymour Duncan-SH-1's. Strong and full ranged pickups. These Ibby's are great players.

I had great luck with Mean 90s in my old Yamaha semi, especially in the bridge position.

That guitar does sound great. Heck, the whole band sounds great. I dig the way the bass player is laying down a solid groove, just chilling there kicking back.

The Dream 90 is just a ceramic Strat pickup in a HB housing, but they do sound great.
The Surf 90 is ceramic with a larger coil(closer to P90 size) in a HB housing, they make a great neck pickup. Bridge placement has been mixed reviews.
Mean 90 is Alnico5 larger coil in HB housing, sound great but probably not what your looking for(at least not in the neck).
Could be that a mix of Dream90 or Surf90 neck and Mean90 bridge would be a better choice.

GFS NYII's or ceramic Gold Foils could give that woody tone your looking for. Having that woody tone for the bridge and being hot enough will be hard to find.

Another vote for a great performance and a great tone. Deserved a venue 50 times the size but looks like you guys were having a ball anyhow.
I have one of those Ibby 75s and a Blues Jr. and now you got me thinking about some dream 90s. I have one in the neck of a Tele and that's my only experience with them.

Thanks again for the great video.

GFS Classic II Alnico II. Clear and articulate. I found them significantly better than the SD 59.
