ive never done a Cars song.

I was torn, Moving in Stereo or All Mixed Up

I was all mixed up, it’s got to be Moving in Stereo

I always knew that Elliot Easton was an awesome roots guitar player, but the riff for Moving in Stereo is exactly what I needed for a Friday like this

    EDIT: make that Elliot Eastman

EDIT EDIT: make that Ric Ocasek

If your down and you need a pickup, try playing this

    Intro:

    e|-----------------------------|
    b|-----------------------------|
    g|-----9--7-----7-----11----9--|
    a|-----9--7-----7-----11----9--|
    d|-----7--5-----5-----9-----7--|
    E|--0--------0-----0------0----|

    e|------------------|
    b|------------------|
    g|-----9--7-----5~ -|
    a|-----9--7-----5~ -|
    d|-----7--5-----3~ -|
    E|--0--------0------|

Very cool! Will have some fun with this tonight. Love this song.

Now to just close my eyes and picture a young Phoebe Cates walking towards me slowly...

That whole album is fantastic, and I find it hard to think of one song without it fading into the other.

The Cars just what I needed solo is a great one to get your bends in order.
Best friends girl is also great for alternate picking and a little finger style or hybrid picking.

    Thanks strats

It’s Elliot Easton on guitar for the Cars.

When I posted, I meant the guitar player Elliot Easton. Actually, Ric Ocasek is the rhythm guitar player, he co wrote the song with the bassist, and it is Ric playing the riff which is probably his own. The bassist is Benjamin Orr and he is the lead singer which gives the song some of its unique qualities. Easton is a lefty.

A lot of them do, but I’ve thought that BFG really shows off Elliot’s rock a billy back ground which is a contrast in style from the cars but it’s a big part of the cars.

Benjamin Orr is not remembered, in my opinion, like he should be. I've found that many of my favorite tunes by the Cars, he sang. It's a shame he died so young.

I bought The Cars first self titled album on cassette in around 1985. I thought the songs were cool but it was sound of Elliot's playing that I really liked about them.
It stood out in my collection of early van halen, Zepp, Hendrix etc.

years ago we covered several Cars tunes and it was then i got a real appreciation for his playing

great solos and riffs....like a song within the song

also a terrific band, they don't make them like that anymore

Benjamin Orr and Ric Ocasek complimented each other so well it was hard to tell them apart at times. I always knew Ben sang Drive, but it was decades before I realized it was Ben singing some of my other favorite Cars tunes as well.

As for as Elliot Easton... those guitar parts are synonymous with the songs, they need to be there! Whenever I see a band cover a Cars tune and the guitar player ad libs the solo I cringe!

    Here is the melody

    Keyboard:
    e|------------------------------------10-|
    b|---12-10-8-7-8-7--------12-10-8-7-8----|
    g|-----------------7-9-------------------|
    a|---------------------------------------|
    d|---------------------------------------|
    E|---------------------------------------|

I posted the lyrics to the last verse above because I was kind of surprised when I got to them even though I’ve heard them many times. The theme of the song is kind of dark. I did not get that from “moving in Stereo”, I did not know what that meant. And now it makes more sense what he means “shaking like tremolo”
