IMG_0079.JPG So I picked up an H.P. Dual trace 100mhz scope, with attached DVM, a 15amp variac and a bag FULL of various scope and meter leads that was going in the trash, at the office today. The variac was still in the taped, new box. Never been opened. I'm gonna look again tomorrow because I think there was another variac someone marked "autotransformer" on the box that's getting tossed, as well as a line voltage analyzer. Had to share!!! Don't hate me cuz I got lucky.

Be careful with those. Don't use them to try to set or lower plate voltages - they are not that stable and can shift. There's also no need to "form" caps - the Gerald Weber-promoted reason for them. I find them to potentially cause more problems than solve 'em.

Good point(s). Caps are too inexpensive to not just replace and never trust the dial on a variac, verify it with a meter if you do use one.
