I've been working on a couple of cabinets out of sapele. I built one a couple of months ago,(an oversized cab big enough for 2X12). I built another one that size and one the same dimensions as a Hot Rod Deluxe.

I think the grain of quarter sawn sapele is stunning to look at. It just shimmers.

Nice. I like working with sepele...except when I don't. The grain gets a bit cranky. Did you grainfill?

Those look great. Are they mitered joints?

    Really nice!

It's making me curious too. I used a piece of "mahogany" scrap from my deck recently in my pedal board. We were just told the decking was mahogany when we moved in. I had never picked up a guitar when we bought the house, I had no idea Mahogany was getting semi-endangered.

The piece I used on the pedal board was pretty darn nice to work with. I'm going to have to photograph the deck and try and figure out what species it is now. I was wondering if it was maybe sapele since sapele is perhaps more common.. but it doesn't look at all like your cabinets.

Just curious how if it's getting rare for guitars how we have 1000sq ft of deck/porch made out of it.

I like it so much it makes me want to buy more and find an excuse to have a woodworking project. Maybe I should build some mahogany shelves to get my guitar cases off the floor of the finished basement in case we had a horrific flood + sump pump failure.

    Beautiful work.
I have a 1-piece Sapele Tele that would go nicely with those!

Hey stratman54, those are beautiful cabs. I haven't been able to match your grill cloth (dark color, classic Fender rectangular weave pattern, looks great) against any of the 'oxblood' grill cloths for sale from major parts suppliers (they all look too red or too wavy on my screen).

Would you post a link or the name of the supplier for the grill cloth you used, please?

How did you do the corner joining? I don't see dove tails or finger joints.
