Hmmm. Did the Standard have belly cuts? I guess I haven't played a special. Sorry - not helpful!
The Am Std had a belly cut in recent years (I believe). Its replacement The Am Pro does not, nor does the Am Special.
Are the post-2012 American Specials hum canceling in the middle position?
Actually, it's post-October/2013 when Fender began using its Custom Shop Texas Special pickups in the American Special Telecaster; that said, the wind/polarity of the Fender CS Texas Special bridge pickup is in direct opposition to that of the neck pickup, so:
Assuming a standard 3-way switch configuration, CS Texas Special pickups will not "hum" when the pickup selector switch is in the "middle" podition.
Hope this helps.
Thanks. I couldn't remember the exact date, but that answers my question.
My CS Nocaster bridge is RW/RP with the Texas Tele neck that my pre-2013 American Special came with.
Interesting. What are the polarities of the Texas Tele pickup and the Nocaster pickup?
I'm not home now, but I'll check tomorrow.
I had a American special strat which was awesome! Not my best strat but not even close to the worst. I loved it. It went the way of trade a while back. Still miss it.
Thanks. Very interested to know.
I love my American special too.
These do look awesome, wish id seen them b4 spending my money!
Great reliable guitar. Does everything I want.
Here's my 2011. All stock less the Mint PG which replaced the stock Black one.
PICKUP ASSY HWY1 TX TELE LEAD
North Pole up, Copper plate on bottom, counter clockwise wind 15,000 turns #43 Polysol wire
Average DC 16-18K
PICKUP ASSY HWY1 TX TELE NK
North Pole up Counter clockwise 10,000 turns #43 Enamel
Average DC 7.8-8.0k
▲Ray, you got that right from Fender ▲
CSTS & CS Nocaster (noise reducing, nr) are Bridge SOUTH, neck north.
Most common for all Tele necks (FENDER) to be north, so any of the sets made to be nr (Nocaster, Texas Special) can have the bridge give you that if you swap it with any FENDER neck.
Fender Tex Mex, Tonerider, CV Tele pups, Keystone's, are the same as the Fenders, id ist, bridge south, neck north.
LongLiveRock54 I think that mint looks killer on there !!
Yes, I DID, Steve.
Good post. Very informative - and helpful for those looking for hum-canceling when the 3-way switch is in the middle position!
Can't speak for the Tele but my strat is an American Special and it's the best guitar I've ever owned.
I got a heck of a deal on that Tele. Bought it brand new online in 2011 for less than $725 delivered.
Glad I bought when I did!
