Hi guys...sorry for my english but I'm italian...
    I need a question.
I have a Fender telecaster 1977 with natural finish in swamp ash.
and I have a Fender Esquire new with natural finish swamp ash.
The paint for the 77 telly is natural but look little yellow
the paint for the new esquire is natural but white.
    Why?
I think the two paints are POLYURETANE ...no nitro...
Why the 77 is more yellow??? for the time? For the paint?

    Thanks and bye

    Andrea

    Hello Andrea,
I have a natural ash 1978 Telecaster (with rosewood fingerboard). Mine is yellowed, too. It's visable, when the pickguard is removed. I suppose the light yellows the lacquer (because covered parts are lighter)
I don't smoke - so the yellowing cannot be caused be smoking/nicotine.
    Regards,
    Klaus

    Hello,
it had simply a clear lacquer over natural ash body. Today it looks similar to butterscotch blonde but without the opaque effekt.

Here is a pic with the "natural" guitar on the left side. At right is my '52 RI in butterscotch blonde. The quality of the picture is bad unfortunately...

    Regards,
    Klaus

    Hi Andrea,
the colour of your Tele looks similar to mine.
I like that yellowed natural finish.

    Greetings from Cologne/Germany,
    Klaus

Andromeda – I think 1970’s Teles were originally finished with Polyester clear-coat (not polyurethane). The Polyurethane was used from 1980’s. I expect the Polyester finish is more prone to yellowing. The older Nitro Cellulose Lacquer (“NC”) ages for several reasons, but the main cause of yellowing is because NC absorbs strongly at the yellow end of the UV spectrum (which means you should be able to age/yellow NC artificially & quickly by putting it under a UV lamp) :? .

Ps:- sorry about last nights football ;)
