Hi JM99, I went down this route before. I added Tung Sol Reissues all around and eventually settled on a Weber Alnico 6 after trying a Weber Sig 6 & Jensen Mod speaker. I also took off the thick speaker fabric off and it sounds great. I think I put less than $100 into it and it is a big improvement.

  3. ^^^ This. Fabric, speaker and tubes.

If you wanted to go further I would suggest using NOS vintage tubes, vintage speaker (usually ebay) and maybe removing the tone stack. The existing tone stack is voiced more like a BF/SF Champ. If you like this great, but if you want a more Tweed Champ sound it is pretty easy to remove the tone stack and insert a coupling cap. If you have no experience working on amps please do not do this yourself.

I went further and made the controls more like the original. Installed a real fuse holder, power/volume switch pot etc. Way overboard for most people but it is a fun platform to tinker with. There are multiple threads on mods if you do a search.

I think I have JJ's in mine; they are a definite improvement over the tubes that came with the amp.

I replaced the speaker with a Jensen MOD 8 - I cut a new baffle for it and everything. It was a tight fit, but just barely made it. Also replaced the cloth.

The 8" speaker makes it sound a bit bigger and louder, but in retrospect I kind of wish I had put a Weber Alnico 6 in there since I've heard other Champ 600 owners rave about them.

Yes... nos tubes, Weber alnico 6”, and rip that suede fabric off for goodness sake! All good upgrades. But when folks start to talk about MM transformers, it’s time to just build your own 5f1 tweed champ or look for a decent used SF. IMHO

Thank you all for your answers
Sorry i didnt visit the site earlier i was very busy (long working hours and travel to and from work)

    I like the ON/OFF fuse
I decided on a Weber Alnico 6 thanks to your advices
The Nos tubes are very expensive over here, customs taxes and shipping costs double the US prices

I was also thiking of adding a reverb tank but have no idea how to proceed or wether it's possible

It took about one and a half month to get the Weber Alnico 6 made and shipped over here
I chose the ribbed model, i also ordered Tung Sol tubes and speaker fabric
The volume seems to be much louder, nice and clean, it gets some grain from 2/3 and saturation
from 3/4 of the way up, (my electric guitars are set with single coil pups)
i'm quite happy with the upgrade although i didnt get a chance to test it
    thouroughfully

I couldnt put back the protection cage around the 6V6 tube because of the shape and size of the new
    speaker

Yep. Did similar upgrades a few months ago. Noticed the same things. Louder (much louder), clearer, more grit, tighter lows.

Actually, with a couple of stomp boxes in front for some variety, I just live this amp now. Half the time I just plug straight into it.

What did you use for a grill? How many watts is that speaker?

    I used a 20w Eminence Patriot.

Weber Alnico 6 is rated 15w
i bought the grill material on the same site i ordered the tubes and the speaker (Banzai Music in Germany)
it looks like an old radio i'm not sure what it is made of, it looks like a mix of synthetic and natural fiber
