Putting together a build and looking for suggestions for a bridge pickup to resembles KEEFs. I know he is supposedly using a lap steel in his. My skills are limited so I would like to keep it in the $100 range.
I am using a neck pickup out of an 8502 tele . Also does anyone use Broadcaster (blend) wiring in their tele and if so how do you like it compared to standard or 4 way?

I am far from expert on these matters, but collective wisdom I've read says to choose a kinda hot vintage-style.

I use a 9.2K nocaster copy, with a neck bucker on blender wiring. Since I don't have Keef's amps, blending in just a little bucker helps to warm the sound. For some songs (think Brown Sugar and Tumbling Dice) I may turn the blend all the way so it's 50/50 bridge/neck. YMMV and maybe some of the better players can chime in....

My custom wound Cavalier A3/43AWG 11k dcr is by far the easiest pickup for me to reproduce KR-ish sound on my blackguard style tele through Kay 703/503 amps.
It sounds like somewhere in between Don Mare's 2 versions of 0038, 10k and 11.5k.

  5. What do you have in the neck?

I have a Mare 0038 in my red Tele. Worth every penny.

Cavalier Lion King, a standard tele neck w/ a NS cover, in a standard tele neck rout.
Used to pair it with Porter Anthem PAF neck in a HS body, I recently sold it... shouldn't have let it go. :(

Haven't tried it personally, but how about some Brown Sugar?

Second this. I'm in a Stones Tribute and this is the pickup I've got in my open G tele.

That's what I'm using too. Sounds pretty "keefy" to me...

I went with a Broadcaster from SD for my Micawber build - pairs nicely w/ the Epi Alnico Classic I have in the Neck

Anyone compare the Don Mare 0038 to the Cavalier Nocaster? Same specs. Just curious.

Wind sounds similar to Rumpelstiltskin 50s Black Ropes too.

I used a "Kluson 4 hole 6 Saddle Telecaster Drop in Upgrade Bridge, Brass Saddles, Nickel" -- fit the CV50s Tele perfectly :)
