So, quick psuedo-plug, I'm a sideman in a Johnny Cash tribute show called Cash Unchained, look us up if you like, but I won't break decorum by posting a link or whatever.

We've been doing this for over a year now, and we're in the process of restructuring our show for the next year. Myself and the bandleader/frontman have some ideas of what material we'd like to work in, but I figured it'd be a waste to not do some surveying of other fans.

So this is what I'd like to know: what's the ONE song of Johnny's (solo or collaboration) that would just absolutely make your evening? A deep cut, a song the average person wouldn't have heard before, something that would surprise you in the best way?

Any input on this is absolutely appreciated.

September When it Comes. I also love his version of You'll Never Walk Alone. But there'd be no point in you playing that without Johnny.

JR and U2 after the Apocalypse...

John does Jimmie with a proper blues band (the Red Devils).

First Johnny Cash record I ever bought way back in the late '50s -- 'Thanks A Lot'. Still one of my favourite JC records.

The 'B' side (at least in the UK) was 'Luther Played The Boogie', the first time I'd ever heard of Luther Perkins -- mind you, I was only about 13 at the time.

The One On The Right Is On The Left - always makes me chuckle and sing along, especially timely these days.

He had long performed a fantastic cover of one of my favorite spirituals, "I'll Fly Away". It is on a record done during his American years. 'My Mother's Hymn Book'.

Mean Eyed Cat - I heard this as a cut on a Sun Records box set. He later recorded it on the Unchained LP
Big River - I like the "...cavortin' in Davenport" line
The Wall - From the Live at Folsom Prison LP
Those are all I can think of, right off the top...

There's a couple of good songs on the Tom Petty produced album.
I usually shy away from his other rock band covers though.
