    Damn, this thread is good.

Great info coming on a lot of these odd guitar choices. EVH and that Steinberger...Keef with a Flying V...good info.

Van Halen with modified Ibanez Destroyer (Explorer copy), Ace Frehley with Ibanez Destroyer, and Clapton with modified Gibson Explorer. None of these guys are known for these pointy guitars with Eddie known most for Frankenstein Kramer and EVH guitars (or similar), Frehley for Les Paul, and Clapton for black Stratocaster.

Who's the percussionist in that clip? I think I remember him from the George Harrison tribute concert. When I watch him, I come to believe I'm playing the tambourine all wrong. And maybe doing everything else in life all wrong, too.

Joe Walsh also gave him a tweed Bandmaster (3x10) and that amp is all over that record too.

  13. Cool thread. Here are a few more.

The Cure's Robert Smith playing a Gibson SG:

New Order's singer/guitarist Bernard Sumner pictured back in the 80's with a Yamaha bass (one of Peter Hook's basses, no doubt):

U2's bassist Adam Clayton playing a Fender Stratocaster:

A very young Paul Weller from his days in The Jam playing a Fender Telecaster (back when his guitars of choice were Rickenbackers):

The now older "Modfather" Paul Weller rocking a Gibson SG:

And speaking of mods, here's an early picture of The Who with Pete Townshend playing a Grimshaw shortscale semi-hollow with a Rickenbacker trussrod cover on the headstock:

Lastly, we have arguably the sharpest mods of all time: The Small Faces with the young Steve Marriot pictured with a Danelectro Longhorn:

He used to always play one of Edge's Strats whenever the band did the song "40." Edge would play bass on that song live and Adam would "play" guitar. Seeing that a few times live I started to think that Edge probably came up with the bassline and he recorded it for the album.

And that picture is probably Adam playing guitar for "40." Adam's playing a G#m chord (that guitar is most likely tuned down half a step) and that chord is essentially the whole song.

That's it. What a cool piece of gear. I am sure Eddie put it to great use. I never saw them live and it must have been a treat.

Albert Lee. I can't "hear" in my head the sound of him on a Les Paul; I'm used to him having a clangy super-bright sound. The other pic I guess doesn't count as it's from a gear show.

It is believed to be the same guitar, later repaired and used after 1973 on many Who and solo recordings.
