I go straight in to either my Peavey Classic 50 twin or my Peavey Delta Blues.

I've avoided pedals mostly because I don't want to get myself started on another case of horrible GAS.

I am fully content with having a humbucking guitar directly into a 1x12 combo amp which has volume and master controls.

I plug any guitar into my Line6Toneport UX2, run through the Gearbox software, "Crunch Guitar" presets >>>"Blues Slide" and it's just my favorite all-around sound ever. So easy-peasy. It almost feels like cheating.

I wish I could replicate that sound live.

I think part of it has to do with my computer speakers set up at about chest level and angled up, it helps create a certain tightness and directness

I've been having a lot of fun plugging straight into a new Blackstar ht5r head and 1x12 cab for the past week.
The neighbours might still be a little peeved but the stuff on the fire mantle is still in place.

I’ve gotten (and given) many smiles with a Tele, Ross style Compressor into a Vibrolux.

That Strat, sometimes the Tele in my avatar, through the ‘54 Deluxe on the right. It’s my gig amp too with just a hint of delay.

I recently stuck a pair of 1940s blackplate, dark glass RCA 6v6 power tubes in place of the aging GEs and now the delay seems kind of pointless...

I don't have a super simple guitar rig at the moment, but I'm building up a tube amp so maybe that will be the one. The minute you give me effects I want a UI and a bunch of knobs. I don't like the way effects are done on the THR10C, Boss Micro Cube, or Katana. I'm sorry, I just don't. I always want to tweak things to be more personal, and get rid of things I never use and only the Katana comes close, but I hate using the PC editor.

On the bass side, my Ibanez TMB30 short scale with flatwounds into my ancient GK 200 MB gets me going without me thinking "if only"...

John, it's interesting that you use the MV50 Rock as a clean pedal platform, and get your grit from a Tube Screamer. How clean are we talking here? In the video demos/reviews I've seen, the Rock model didn't seem to clean up that much. Does it get clean-ish, or truly clean? What are your settings?

My only setup really. Depending on the situation I may change the Super out for one of my tele builds but it's always the same amp.

When I turn down the pregain I get spanky clean tones that could keep up with a drummer. It almost sounds like a clean Pathfinder 15 but there's more power and the cab is a closed back LOPO (Ted sold all his designs to Mojo Tone) cab with a Jensen MOD 12/50 in it. It's like a Pathfinder on steroids. I get the same happy feeling when I play my 77 Champ but this is more full with more sparkle. I know that Vox makes three of the MV units. They make a clean, AC30, Rock, Boutique and Hi-Gain. I think that you have to buy into the Boutique or Hi-Gain camp to not enjoy cleans. With the pregain cranked on mine I'm in the classic zone and that's as much gain as I can get. I'm fine with this.

We should show contrast now. :) This is the board that I gig in a cover band. This is the "anything is possible" board.

Maybe I feel like a happy little kid playing with an amp that is 6" wide. Our bass player has one of those tiny 100 watt Trace Elliot heads. He shows up with a 1 x 15 JBL cab and he pulls his bass head out of his jacket pocket. The sight always makes me smile.

All my rigs have been simple. Guitar-amp-cab is my gig set up. I did use a tube screamer when the amp was a Twin, others had a mv.

More recently, it's been blues jams, so I'll have a boost of some sort on hand for solos.

My zen zone comes by playing either my Tele or Dearmond 2k-equipped Gretsch through a '65 Reverberocket turned up to a nice resonant tone. Although my '63 Vibroverb RI will do as well. No pedals, just the "onboard effects" - reverb and the occasional tremolo.
