Very few of the "classic rock" touring bands still have all or even a majority of their members still in the band, yet the tours keep rolling along and a lot of them do pretty good business.

Aside from Aerosmith, ZZ Top, U2 and a small handful of others, most of the band we grew up with are touring with just one or two members, sometimes none.

Does it matter to you who is in the band , or when you go to see one of these bands of non-originals, are you happy just hear the hits performed by professional musicians?

Absolutely. If I want to see a cover band there are more than a few really good ones local to me.

Yeah, probably makes a big difference, like Foghat is on tour and it's really just Roger Earl and some journeymen rockers like Charlie Huhn, Cheap Trick is on tour and it's everyone but Bun E.. I saw CT a few years ago and I gotta say, it was a really good show. I saw Aerosmith a few years ago, last time they toured and it was astounding how good they are and how they have survived it all.

Generally yes. Otherwise it's a cover band. and there are big name cover bands who emulate a particular band that are every bit as good to be seen cheap.

I thought this thread was going to be about The Band, not bands in general.

Most surviving members are probably wearing them.

I don't see those guys because they aren't worth over $100 a ticket to me.

I just passed on my favorite band on my birthday because tickets were so high.

Maybe I'm cheap but $30 used to get you hours of entertainment.

I saw everybody i wanted to see when they were relevant. These old guys still touring regardless of the reasons, don't interest me. I spend my entertainment $$ on younger, hungrier acts. Better bang for my buck.

    Edited to fix a typo

    Yup.
    It totally matters to me.
I'm saw the "Guess Who" in Las Vegas once.
Jim Cale was the only original member.
    The non-singing bass player.
The rest were good players and singers, but .....

    You mean, Unwarranted Capitalization?

It is just a tool. Ya gotta know when to use it and when Not To.

If you force me to do everything According to Hoyle, I may as well get my office up and going full time. At least I get paid.

Depends. I saw Asleep at the Wheel recently. No one but Ray Benson is original. Did it matter? Not in the least. Pure Prairie League comes around every so often with whomever. They're always good.Kim Simmons tours as Savoy Brown, that's a good show too. Many of the bands doing this now are acts I don't need to see or would never see no matter when.

I remember being nonplussed when I got to see The Byrds in Erie County, New York. Not far from home.

Why, Chris Hillman wasn't even there.

They, they has this joker named White playing this odd guitar. Definitely not the right personnel!

    :^)
