I do. Even though the world tries to beat us down and make all cynical old codgers (well, eleven months out of the year, that's exactly what I am, so... Mission accomplished!), when this time of year rolls around, do you find yourself trying to find the brighter side?

To me, that's what Santa is: A feeling in each of us that the world isn't the dark, depressing, oppressive place that it can seem sometimes. Santa is the spirit that makes us glad to be alive and happy to be with the ones we love. In short, Santa is the personification of the Christmas spirit.

Some people get very down around Christmas time. To them I say -- Try to find a little Santa in yourself or those around you. This is a season of joy, not crass consumerism, which is can sometimes seem. Remember to be warm and treat others kindly and you will also come to personify the season.

In other words, just be nice and treat other well -- Is that really so hard? I don't think so!

    I believe in Santa Cruz...skateboards.

We made the elaborate efforts every year at Christmas, from the beginning of my sons consciousness until there was no way he could believe anymore. Half eaten cookies , the milk glass drained, sooty footprints on the hearth - the whole deal.

I feel much better about that then about my buddy who was raised with no Christmas and who does not celebrate Christmas even though he has a son my son’s age.

Nope - I'd have more money and we wouldn't have to run a background check on our neighborhood party santa if we had a real one!

Santa may be real, but he allowed Rudolph to be a bigot - that was already established on here.

Thus, my neighborhood is going to have to keep going with the background check no matter how real santa is. Nobody can be trusted these days.

And why did he make Mrs. Claus change her last name and stop using her first name? Wayyy too alpha.

I believe Santa's elves just visited this thread, they disappeared some posts, including mine, so I have to vote yes, I believe in Santa.

(But it could just be @brogh in a red suit and false beard)

Google says "aqua". What would we do without google? We'd have to leave rhetorical questions unanswered. That would be so tasteful to do.

An interesting conceptualization rationalizing the post winter , loss of light reaction to the the earth leaning away from the sun.
Nihilism is a much simpler perspective,
A friend of mine from some norther place in Sweden say the winter day day only get sun down and only for a few hour then it's dark for the next 22 hour, people become really depressed
( Ibsen's writings grown more illuminated when the long winter nights are facterd in to his somber plays)
When I asked her what Do people do?
    She said "we drink" .
Staying indoors through long winter nights with ones very depressed friends and drinking a lot, could be a new Winter Olympics Extreme Sport.
