There's a bunch of posts with Asian language symbols in the titles...
I would say yes... most definitely yes.
Im not sure why, but this happens everyday now.
i dunno why you guys let this stuff bug you even enough to find it worth mentioning.
For me, it's just a slight annoyance until I've blocked (ignored) the spammer, and then it's out of sight, out of mind
click on their name, then push ignore. then hit recent posts and theyre gone.
it is still annoying and it's more like a sign that the "new account"-verification is not working properly. The current user verification can obviously easily be automated by computers.
This discussion should be in the "Forum Problems and Issues" subforum, not the Telecaster Discussion Forum
Never knew about the "ignore" thing - very useful.
Not necessarily. When you consider that you can hire people in Asia to do this kind of "work" for $3 per day, it doesn't require any kind of automation.
They might spend 10 minutes per day hitting TDPRI. $3 per day divided by ten hours, is 30 cents per hour.
The ten minutes required to hire a living breathing person is costing the spammers about a nickel.
Pretty sure it's not bots, if you watch the pattern of their testing
They probably noticed that it takes an extremely long time to erase their spam.
On the other hand, it's pretty weird that they're just posting nonsense. Is there an automatic thing that doesn't let them post links?
As an IT security specialist, I think the pattern is a confirmation that it probably is...
I don't. It's not random enough, in the right ways (I'm also a RACF/ITSEC guy)
I’m beginning to think they enjoy it.
They’re not posting nonsense. I’m a tech and have some experience in this particular niche. They’re in a very lucrative business although they’ve chosen the completely wrong demographic.
Translation as follows:
What about when they were posting just those numbers without the universities. Do you remember what that was about?
Interesting. The most current rash included an English post, originally ("
Columbia away acceptance September?") swiftly translated into non-English
I think this was a quick testing of the waters, but I'm not sure of that.
It seems there were two new accounts that did the postings. I put them on ignore but they seemed to be all about university admissions which is big business in China. Not sure why they were spamming TDPRI but maybe it’s a similar acronym to something they’re targeting and they just hit us by mistake.
Wow it's bad today.
I wonder what can be done?
Certainly need some better verification process for new membership.
