Do you remember from what height you dropped the pickup initially to create that ding. i guess the logical next step would be to drop the pickup from a reduced height to make the wood surface flat.

How will I know if it's the right height...

Maybe I should just use a hammer!!!

I used a small chisel to carefully remove the raised wood, then sanded.

The following photos are after the first application of Solarez Grain filler. Looks like it's need two additional coats to fill the grain. The sun is setting, so it'll have to wait until the next sunny weekend.

The dings are completely gone, no sign of them even under magnification.

I'm so glad this was savable. I really like this Walnut body!!

When the steam trick works it is a great day, kind of like a movie happy ending after you were sure the hero was dead!

Nice job. Let us see the finished product, and don’t drop anything.

Great job getting the ding out. If that didn't work I was going to suggest taking an Exacto knife and modelling a grain pore over the remaining indentation of the ding. Two or three shallow cuts would have broken up the line of the circle.

Funny I was wondering if it was the same. I have a neck 1/2 done, that other projects have pushed to the back of the line.

No worries... still haven't finished the guitar with the Ash blank I got from you... but it's getting closer to being on the priority list to finish... funny in the same position, have a neck half finished and the body needs more clear coats.. here's a sneak peek... :D
