Delbert is the man! See him soon while you can.
P.S. - I read that he taught John Lennon to play the harmonica. Gotta love that.
He is the man!
I like Delbert, mostly his more blues oriented stuff. I went to see him live locally a few years back, and it seemed to be a country concert. I guess I was expecting more of the other stuff. Not that his country is bad thing, just didnt seem to have the power and passion for me.
One of my all time favorites, since some time in the 70's when I saw him on SNL.
He headlined the Pinedale Blues fest one year. Great show and I believe he actually got paid. Ha.
I like Shaky ground myself
I was trying to find a decent live version of "back to Louisiana" but this is the best I could do. His version on "Live from Austin" is awesome.
The version from "Keeper Of The Flame"
I've seen Delbert several times over the years.
One such time was in the mid-eightees in Lexington, Ky. Delbert was playing a small bar and I bumped into him at the bar, between sets. I struck up a conversation with Delbert and bought him a beer. Having a great time joking with Delbert, when all of a sudden he takes a drink, stares at the beer in his hand and then says sorry buddy I gotta go!
I thought for a minute and then saw a standup promotion of Delbert sponsored by Miller beer...we were both drinking bottles of Budweiser!!!! LMAO
I was listening to a number of his different albums and got to thinking....
What a Chameleon he can be, the way he can vary the sound of his voice so much. Not many folks can change it up this much.
Fort Worth, Texas!
One of my favorites!
I've always enjoyed his music. I heard an interview with him, he was asked what advice he had for musicians starting out. Delbert replied "Never leave your wallet backstage!"
