I'm not trying to pick on Bonamassa, but there are far too many older Telecaster players, totally synonymous with the instrument, that I'd rather see with his former guitar...just sayin'.
Someone needs to tell Johnny Hiland that Danny's '53 is up for sale!
Now that's one younger guy, I'd love to see with that tele!
In the Gatton biography, there's a long section on his work with roger Miller. It didn't work out, if my memory serves me. I can't remember any mention of Willie. But that doesn't mean much.
The 53 should go to Steve Morse.
Then it would still be played on the same level.
Besides, he can afford it.
I have been dreaming about that guitar for years! It's a beauty! I just wish I was filthy rich... And I hope it goes to someone who actually plays it.
I see Danny's '53 sold for $62,500. Anyone know who bought it?
Holly told me a fellow who lives in San Francisco won it, a man in his 30s who plays, but I know nothing else about him. If he's a memeber, perhaps he'll chime in.
I think there's a bunch of blackguard players out here in SF, we should get together a blackguard party, Danny's would no doubt be the star of the show-
Danny Gatton 53 Tele sold
I saw that someone bought Danny's '53 Tele...he played that guitar on 25 of the 26 songs on my "Rock 'n Roll Time Capsule" album in '90-'91...on the other song he played his '54 ES 295...I now own the 295 plus the last unnumbered prototype Tele Fender made for him...I'm pictured with these two guitars on my "Scooby Daddy" album...Johnny Hiland plays the Tele on this album, and Bobby Keys plays, well, sax...Danny was a true genius...I really wish I would have had a chance to work more with both Danny and Bobby...Rock On...Sweet Mikey C
I agree with you completely and it is unfortunate so many great pieces end up in vaults. In a perfect world, a philanthropist would buy them up and make them available to top players to record or perform with so those treasures aren't lost forever.
I'd would love the rich new owner to loan it to J.D Simo, Kirk fletcher, Josh smith, or Joe for that matter it should be played.
John 5 will prolly buy it or Kirk Hammett LMAO!
I just puked in my mouth a little :|
It's pretty cool, but I think Gatton's guitar should be retired. It looks beat to hell and it's obviously modded to Danny's specifications, plus it was such a part of him that anyone else playing it doesn't seem quite right.
Put it on display, admire the history, and let's play modern instruments with modern improvements instead.
Jim Campilongo is the next in line for the 53, imho.
Jim has stated that he doesn't really like those banana yellow guitars that everyone seems to fancy
Well glad it's got a home and that my prediction was wrong!
id rather have the Broadcaster
if anyone deserves the gatton tele its john mayer
