She's good. She's exceptional, but she'll only exploit you
One of my favorite new artists...I like her free flowing lyrics and the groove behind them is head bobbing. And of course she's a lefty which instantly makes her awesome.
So is the Lucinda Williams vibe intentional? (at least that first tune)
I dig what I hear!
I admire her dedication to her music & not fame. From pizza deliveries to stage shows with the likes of Billy Bragg etc. & her own record lable. Very humble, talented & smart. Praiseworthy indeed.
I like her collaboration with Kurt Vile
Me too, big time. I'd never seen this video where they show him doing her vocals and vice versa - hilarious. That was my favorite album of the last few years.
She sounds like a cross between Lucinda Williams and Sheryl Crow. I like it!
[EDIT: Mix in a little Kurt Cobain too. That live gig video really rocks!]
Yeah I like her stuff a lot. I actually prefer her solo stuff to the Kurt Vile team-up (nice, but not really my thing). She’s capable of a lot. So good in so many styles. I feel like she’s a glimpse of the kind of career that Kurt Cobain would have had later in his life. But I like her better.
I love her new stuff, but Avant Gardener is by far my fave.
Her second appearance on Fallon where they did "Pedestrian at Best" was absolute dynamite. I cannot find video of it anywhere, which is crazy because it was one of her best live performances that I've ever seen.
CB lives here in Melbourne, and is a good supporter of the local music scene.
I like her too. She did some duets with Kurt Vile and I can't help but see her as the female version of Kurt Vile in so many ways.
Or to be more politically correct Kurt Vile is the male version of Courtney Barnett
All I hear is Chrissie Hynde and I was never a fan of hers.
Australia's such a small country, in the sense that you 'know' pretty much everybody through somebody else you know. So I was sitting in my local and asked the owner (as a joke) when she was going to have Courtney Barnett come play . . . and it turns out CB used to play there before she hit the big time. "Such a shy kid." (!)
This performance with Kurt Vile is well recorded, pleasingly filmed and nicely 'there.'
Finding her on KEXP is also worth the effort.
early days.... this is fun..
love that guitar she's playing and the tones that come from it.. way cool...
