Well I finally went and did it! I made me a copy of Eddie Van Halen's Frankenstein! I spent WAY too much time studying and replicating minute details...from tape not removed from the striping process, to a crack in the fiberboard of the switch that isn't even connected, to the odd burn mark on the 7th fret, to the remnant tape sticky on the upper bout, to the odd circle in the pickup route from where the amp jewel that was glued in later left when it came out, to the dummy neck pickup. I even used a real Tele tone knob for the volume. frankentele guitar world.jpg IMG_0734.JPG IMG_0984.JPG my frankentele 001 .JPG

    That's pretty awesome.

I was a huge EVH fan back in the day but I must have been previously disposed that day.
No, never seen it before but this sure looks like a nice job.

Is this an elaborate hoax? Did Ed really have a striped Tele?

I think the frankentele build is awesome, though
OP: did you include a 1971 quarter jammed between the face of the body and the floyd?

I don’t recall a Tele like this either, but it looks pretty cool. Great job OP.

only if you're like, reallllly gullible

However it does seem the OP did a bang up job of recreating eddie's most well-known guitar, only in tele form

This is purported to be the actual original
    [IMG]

...although I'm not too sure of that, it seems to me the edges of the headstock would be more scarred and dinged/beat up/battered.

At any rate, that multiple burn pattern is recreated on all the replicas that are really trying to be authentic-looking
