Last year I accidentally made a smaller PRS Mira style template, and it has become one of my favorite bodies, I also am going to keep the costs as close to $0 as possible using wood and parts I already have. I am going for the most comfortable guitar in terms of weight and contours.

    mahogany body and maple top
mahogany or maple set neck with rosewood fretboard
pickups, need to decide between humbuckers, P90s, or some strat pups

6/4 really light African mahogany for the body

0.6 " lightly figured soft maple for the top

    Indian rosewood for the fretboard

    African mahogany for the neck

thanks nick, I wondered whether you were going to participate this year

    preparing the body

I made sure the template will fit within my measurements before cutting the body

after cutting the two halves with a scroll saw, checked the joint and it looks pretty good, I am glad because I don't have a jointer, this supplier prepares the sides really cleanly

to comply with the Open class rules, I will be modifying the original Mira neck; it is a set neck with a 25" scale length, by only replacing the headstock with the tele headstock, as this:

before deciding about the challenge's guitar, I did a mock-up with another project's body and a tele neck:

Who doesn't like a comfy guitar? Anyway, I like that body
shape a lot. With the woods you're using I expect it'll be
    beautiful.

Are you going to do a one-piece neck, scarf joint, laminated, ...?

    thanks Captain

thanks flatfive, looks like you are going to start your build

the plan for the neck is one piece (two if you add the rosewood fretboard), no scarf joint since I am assuming that if I follow the tele neck construction, the height difference between the fretboard and headstock will give enough tension to keep the strings in place; since I will be using a wraparound bridge there needs to be an angle at the heel, I will compute that angle once I have the fretboard and the neck, but based on previous builds it should be somewhere around 2.5 - 3 degrees

You could always recess the wrap around bridge... would look totally bad ass and keep your angles nice and strait...

thanks Deegatron for the suggestion - that will simplify things quite a bit, I am also considering this
