First I thought something by the Beatles. But then there's always some weird people who don't like the Fab Four. So it would have to be something by the Stones. How about this one?

    Mr Bojangles or California Girls.

I particularly like the Jerry Jeff Walker version of Mr Bojangles where he explains the origins of the song.

    My 2 cents...

I can't think of anyone who hates Curtis Mayfield.

I'm with you. Favor America though when it comes to Simone & Garfunkel

Let us be lovers, we'll marry our fortunes together
I've got some real estate here in my bag
So we bought a pack of cigarettes and Mrs. Wagner's pies
And we walked off to look for America…

sounds like a novel begining, not a song....
(and certainly by now cigarettes and mrs wagner's pies are verbotten)
don't know if you've ever listened to Simon's wife stuff but I quite liked her Album
    Picture Perfect Morning.

Regarding the OP ... Great Q but .... ughhh! ... to the principle suggestion.

Think you'd have to go back to something a bit more rootsey here regarding bridging blues/rock/country (of a sort::confused:) ... So, I'lI vote/anyone else go for ... Tutti Frutti?
