hello i could buy a cheap burned tele neck i dont know what happened with it but it seems that the transparant finish is gone and the wood is a bit black but a good neck for the rest im planning to build a partcaster wich i can bring along with me everywhere i want.
it feels a bit raw now so what do you guys suggest to finish that spot with ?
and how do i polish after finishing.

    thanks

    What's 'cheap' mean? $10, 20, 50?
You might have to sand fairly deep to get rid of the char and that couldn't have done the glue in the skunk stripe joint any good.

Yup thats what i would do. If you arent comfortable with stripping it tou could just sand the neck down in the back and rub on some tru oil.

the black burned spot dont have to be gone or something it just needs a finish and its all good for me :)
its gonna be my traveling guitar so it may look used and dirty but it needs to play good hehe
i think someone didnt like his tele and set it on fire :p

Tell em the burn mark is from your BLISTERING solos up at the 14th fret! It's make-a-legend time. ;-) That and it's not worth $80 by the way.

Not worth $80.00? I dunno bout that... is this a HWY1 neck?

What do the frets look like. if serviceable, I'd say yes to the 80.00.

The glue at the strip/heat incursion is probably non glue not FWIW.
CA glue to the rescue ?

A 2012 usa neck on ebay with tuners is 300 dollars more. I'd take it for 80. Lightly sand the burned area and then get a can of spray lacquer and spray over the spot. It'll never be a showpiece and I bet you'd have to take off quite a bit of wood to get that out....so why worry about it.

Does the truss rod work ? , because I wonder if they were trying to heat it up to get access to a broken truss rod.

perhaps it's a stock US tele neck from '95....

does a hwy 1 body have a tilt screw fitted?....

bargain for $80 , all day long around here....... if it's straight...

I'd just build up some oil coats and buff it back... or a lacquer spray over the black spot and feather it back smooth...;)

Holy blowtorch, Batman! Sand it a little and seal it with whatever you like- poly, nitro, Tru Oil- whatever. $80 is a deal if it's a viable neck. Or you could sand it smooth, prime it, and do it in a color- been done before. Lots of options.

It almost looks like the some of the wood is gone on the burned spot. The whole area looks kinda concave, maybe that's an illusion though. I'd stay away from it, if it's a travel guitar, who cares if it says "Fender", just my 2 cents

In trying to explain what happened to it, I defer to our friend, the late Napoleon:

My Tele lived through a house fire, and all I did to the neck was clean the soot off and have the frets crowned (which needed doing anyway).

If anything, I like the neck more now.

    Nice look.

The OP could do the butane torch charing to a pine tele body like this body from another thread.
