First, we have "Liege & Lief" by Fairport Convention, perhaps the greatest English Folk Rock album ever.

Then, we have Steeleye Span's "Hark! the Village wait." As much as I love the voice of Sandy Denny, Maddy Prior is certainly a fine singer as well.

Then there are The Strawbs, Pentangle, Fotheringay, Richard Thompson and others. What are your favorite bands or recordings from this genre?

Thanks to my good friend Corby, for turning me on to this music many years ago.

I recently went back through some of that because of Richard Thompson.

Thanks for reminding me of John Martyn.

Then there's the late John Renbourn, from Pentangle.

I like a lot of the bands mentioned, but I simply adore Pentangle. This track has brought me to tears more than once:

Don't forget the Irish influence with Horslips.

Here's a less well known band from Scotland who did folk rock pretty well.

I tried to find their version of Fishing Blues which I always loved but it doesn't seem to be on YouTube.

I think this record shows that American music, like country, bluegrass and rock were built on British folk music.
