I just recorded When You Wish Upon A Star by Bill Frisell, this is after three days of learning it. Learning it wasn't that hard but bringing Frisell's touch and sound to it was very hard. This is only half the tune with the real hard parts waiting for me. This is the chart I used, This is the first time I've tackled any of Bill Frisell's chord melody approaches. So very different with fractured counterlines and non chord tone fragments, his style is so economic and supremely mad scientist. He's an artist with mystery, maybe more so now than before I learned the piece three days ago. I would love to talk about his unique insights into harmony and tweaked chord melody solo styles.
