I'm not a strong one for the genre , and I hear where you want to take this
the guitar parts and the rhythm sound reminecent of the Byrds, thats a good thing, the instruments dont crowd each other tonally, the drums do sound subdued in the mix although the snare comes up front,
you've got something there so be really critical when mixing it , the lyrics and the hook are good, and for a rough take you are about 85% of the way there, to where you want to take it.
this is my first impression, listening to it for the first time

Thanks for the feedback, the drums are courtesy of Boss Dr Rhythm . I am going record it with real musicians eventually. I appreciate the reference to the Byrds,especially after watching the wrecking crew.
