I know I'm not the only one who think that the early 50's Blackguards are the most beautiful guitars on the planet. I also know that I ain't the only one who has built a replica of one.

So this is THE CLUB for all the guys who ain't lucky enough to own a real one but have built themselves a replica.

Please share a couple of pics of your guitar and post some specs and if you have any plans on coming upgrades to it.

    [IMG][IMG]

    Specs:
NECK: Allparts FAT neck - super thin nitro finish
BODY: Fender Lite Ash body - stripped and refinished w/ super thin nitro coat
WEIGHT: Extremely light, but I don't have a scale so I haven't checked yet.
PICKUPS: Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro
WIRING: Modern wiring with "Mylar" Cap from 1950's, CTS pots, Switchcraft switch & Jack
OTHER: Glendale Philip head screws, Fender Pat. Pend bridge, Nitro-finished bakelite guard, Nocaster style milled jack cup...

PLANS: Pickup upgrade in the future to something along the lines of Stuart Blackguards or something from Don Mare.

I haven't built a "traditional" Blackguard yet but I've built a couple that are close I guess.

This one turned out nice and sounds great. The body wood is Hackberry instead of Ash and it has a humbucker in the neck position, but other than that it is pretty much standard Tele.

This one is Swamp Ash with standard Tele pickups. But the neck has a Rosewood fretboard instead of Maple. I also used the Butterscotch Blonde lacquer from the ReRanch... which I do NOT really like. It looks more like Country Crock Margarine than Butterscotch Blonde to me.

Here's my first one, finished in clear amber:

Warmoth swamp ash body finished in thin polyU
Fender Classic 50s Esquire neck w/Kluson-style tuners
    CS Nocaster pickups (neck=7.17K, bridge=7.25K)
Fender vintage bridge w/Callaham brass compensated saddles
    Callaham Lacquered Bakelite pickguard

A second one is currently in the works, similar but with a butterscotch blonde nitro finish, flame maple neck, and a little different plan for the electronics...

    Ciao,
    Rick

    Blackguard

Just finished my first ever build...

Not exactly true to the original with the neck...

    Specs:

    USACG ash body
Reranch butterscotch blonde - Deft rattle can nitro - gloss

Mighty mite birds eye maple neck
(hate the plastic nut - have a new GraphTech on it's way)
    -9.5 radius
    -Std C shape
    -Fender 3/8" tuners

    Fender vintage saddle bridge
    GFS 50's bridge pup
    Fender 52 RI neck pup

control plate- CRL switch, CTS 250K, Sprague orange drop .047

    Electrosocket with Switchcraft jack

Lots of hand sanding, rubbing, buffing, polishing..etc

I am very pleased with the results of 2 months of work...that also kept my mind occupied in some uncertain times..... I am already planning my next build...this time I will make the body and neck from raw wood....

Here's mine. Old (15 years or so) Stew-Mac ash body, Allparts TMO-FAT with Stainless Jumbo frets. ReRanch Butterscotch and clear on body, Stew-Mac vintage amber stain and Tru-Oil on the neck. Mostly Fender metalwork. DiMarzio HS-3T bridge and Seymour-Duncan noiseless neck pickups (plan to replace them with Don Mare Tweed Monsters). Reversed control plate with 4-way switch.

    A recent 'glamour' shot...

I recently got the paint to check...

    I've posted these pics before....
    It's a loose copy of #0514...
I'm about to take some new close-ups, so I'll add them down the line sometime....

    Specs:

NECK: Allparts FAT neck - French polished shellac...

    BODY: USACG

    WEIGHT: Extremely light....

    PICKUPS: Mares...

I've been playing it for about a year, and the fingerboard wear is now a lot more authentic, as is the body wear.
Nothing like a little playing time to make relicing look more real....

This one was my take on a non-aged blackguard.
