Walnut top and pine back from his childhood farm. Pickups are Seymour Duncan Vintage Broadcasters plus a gold Lace Sensor. Neck is a no-name from Amazon until I can make a proper one.

    Here she is mocked up:

I bought a Wilkinson bridge with brass saddles for it... any of y’all used one of these bridges?

Here’s a close up of some of the figuring of the walnut

I have that bridge on my walnut top, pine back guitar. I like it. Nice looking build.

Gorgeous work! I haven't used the Wilkinson specifically, but my Hipshot bridge is pretty much identical and I love it.

Thanks again everyone... I can’t wait to get this thing finished and give it to him. Best thing about the whole deal? This will be his first Telecaster after a long time playing Strats and LP’s. He’s wanted one for awhile, and has liked mine when he’s played them but hasn’t been able to swing the money for a good one yet.

Here’s a few pics from the build...

It was originally intended to be a pinecaster, but the boards weren’t thick enough at 1-1/2” thick before planing and sanding down. So my sister and I went back to the farm and found the 1/2” walnut boards.

That's soooooo cool man. I'd love to get me some walnut, but I'm considering a build using a local tree wood called Macrocarpa (from the Cypress family) for the top, then hitting it with a walnut stain. Comes out looking fantastic!

According to my (JAFA) offsider, there's a macrocarpa tree growing in the block next to a job we're working on. I figured it was some kind of cypress and he was with the NZ Forestry Dept years ago and was able to identify it. It's a nice looking tree and I wonder what the wood is like? What's it like to work with?
I hope you do a build thread if you go ahead with your idea.

It's one of my favourite woods for many projects. I have it on several different features around my home. I love the smell of it, especially when you cut it. It's a soft wood, very similar to pine, so very easy to work with, but can chip and mark very easily.

Yes, I will do a build thread if I go ahead with that idea. Here's a few shots of part of a couple of boards I got recently from a local supplier. The third photo shows how nice the walnut stain comes up.

And here's a pic of a Rick Turner Model 1 guitar I did in solid macrocarpa. I've done an oak stain and an oil called CT50 on the front. When applied straight onto the wood the oil gives it a similar colour - very rich texture. I used the oak for a bit of difference. The back is stained walnut, (as per the hs) but I don't have a shot of that atm.

So, does just under 5lbs for the bare body seem about right?
