Seems that Billy Gibbons rarely played an Esquire for quite a long time.
He mostly plays an SG these days. Either a copy of Lil' Red or the one of which John Bolin built the prototype and that is offered by Gibson as a very limited edition. (the one with the Flying V Headstock).

On this summer's European tour Billy got a special Helliver Trapezoid.
It's a one p/up guitar with hollowed body instead of the normal two p/up and solid body Trapezoid. The p/up is a Amber Classic Rock.

Have you seen the interview with BG's guitar tech? The tech says all BG's guitars (live) are run through an EQ so they all come out sounding like the bridge PU of his favorite Les Paul.

Yes alnico, I've seen that interview and already had heard of it years before.
IMHO it does not always work.
I saw ZZ TOP many times live and I think that the Gibson Futura replicas (built by John Bolin) were the ones to came really close to a real LP sound.
Almost the same I would say regarding the Bolin Esquires played by Billy in the late 90ies and early 2000s.
Can't say that about the downsized Billy-Bo-Pros.
But again. just my humble opinion.

I always liked these early Erlewine Automatics played by Billy decades ago.
Considered these as a good mix out of a Les Paul, Strat and Esquire. They sounded awesome. billy1-sm.jpg have-mercy2.jpg

Hi there guys, I'm looking for specific information.

What is the Tele that he is playing at Montreux 2013, the one with the longhorn sticker underneath the strings?

    Cheers!

This one? It's a Bolin-made Esquire in 'concrete' finish, following the style of the RebelRelic holy grail.

I seem to remember that it's a Cream T Banger humbucker in the bridge, but not 100% sure on that.

This guitar here is a copy of the original John Bolin Super Model guitar.
The copy is made by London based luthier Will Russel and it was made for Nigel lBarker. That guy had a ZZ Top Cover act going. The p/up is a Duncan Pearly Gates.

I always wondered if the furry Explorer, despite best design efforts, ever impeded the ringing of the strings...

Billy Gibbons and the BFGs play at Reel to Reel.
Much to my surprise his guitar has a neck pickup.
If it had not written 'Rev. Willy' on the fretboard
I'd assume that he had just loaned it from the houseband.

This Esquire here in that BIGTONE Ad is the same guitar
shown in the inner sleeve of Billy's solo album 'Perfectamundo'.
Wonder what's written on that body.
    Anybody in the know?

That Bolin guitar model was posted before, I know.
But I just love this pic here. It has different p/up to the pic that was posted before.
In the first pic it's a Cream T Banger Blonde.
2nd is a Cream T 'Billy F Gibbons Humbucker' which looks like a Fender Wide Range.

Apart from the artificially (guessing) aged back of the neck not much to see of this guitar here.
But it's a great pic in every way.
