My wife and I were in Charleston and I decided to check a mom and pop shop I'd never been to before. I had no intention of buying anything, but after trying a bunch of super nice Taylors, I focused on the D-18. I've been GASsing for one for a couple of years, and had played quite a few and really liked them all. It was almost closing time and the guy asked me what I thought and I told him I really liked the D18.

He said, "Why don't you take it home? Here's what I can do--." I know all about MAP pricing and "real price" and I'll just say I got a really good deal. I discussed it with the wife for a few minutes and after realizing she was not going to divorce and/or kill me, we did the deal.

I just got home and it's too dark for proper NGD pics. I'll do a proper daytime shoot and updated family photo in the near future.

Here are a few pics from tonight. Like I said, I will get some better shots sometime when the sun is shining. Anyway, here's what I've got so far. It doesn't look much different than most D18's but I think it has some pretty unique stripes on the neck.

I've been going back and forth between it and my Taylor 314ce for a little while tonight and the necks seem to feel pretty similar. Both are easy to play and sound great. I suppose the main difference is that the D18 just sounds "bigger" than the Taylor, although the Taylor does hold it's own very well. The Taylor feels more comfortable on the lap but the D18 is not cumbersome in the least. The Taylor is a great guitar and I have no complaints whatsoever about it but now I also have a great Martin too like I've always wanted.

Can't go wrong with a D-18. It is THE golden standard of acoustic guitars.

Very lovely, and even more exciting to know that this is the worst it's ever going to sound; my Martin has opened up significantly over the years. You've got a wonderful and supportive wife, too. Oh, how they tolerate our madness...

I'm jealous. My ole D-18 has been away for a while getting a neck reset, and boy do I miss her.

Congratulations! I'm sure she'll treat you real nice.

I bought a D18 in 1975 but sold it a few years later. Big mistake.
    Congratulations on your Martin.
    Enjoy!

(Great to hear that your wife is understanding!)
