Trying to work out this chord melody arrangement of Embraceable You and there is one chord that is absolutely impossible to play on my favorite acoustic. Its a Gmaj7 like this: 10,8,11,9 high E to D string. I'm playing the high E string with my ring finger and I can only fret the note at a very tricky angle or my fingernail hits the board and kills it. I could do it if:
    1. I had no fingernail
    2. The frets were bigger/higher
    3. The fretboard was wider
I can play it on a classical and on my tele and 339 but I want to play it acoustic steel string. I'm thinking I need to buy a new archtop jazz box right?

Absolutely. You will totally suck unless you get that new guitar.

I would get the guitar, much less painful than having the fingernail removed.

It's a beautiful chord (xx9.11.8.10) so I say go for it. It the meanwhile you can sub:

    xx9.11.10.10 (Bm7 = GMaj9 no root)
    xx9.12.10.10 G(add 2)
    x(10).9.9.10.10 G6/9

"I want it" is usually reason enough.

Desire itself... is a good enough reason.

I have a couple too. I need a new lunchbox for work. The old broken one has a fender sticker on it. Looks like I'm going to have to buy a new guitar so I can put the new sticker on my new lunchbox. :D
Or... I'm in the mood for tootsie rolls and smarties candies. If I buy a new 59 reissue les paul from sweetwater, I'll get the candy for free. And they'll deliver it!? Free candy? What's the catch?o_O

Say it ain't so. Play them subs but tell your wife, (whiney) "none of these chords have that minor second rub!"

Buy it because you enjoy playing the guitar. That's the thing. It's a good thing.

My favorite excuse is "It's Tuesday."

This also works with any day that ends in y.

There are no excuses for not buying a guitar. Only valid reasons like "I can't afford the guitar and a divorce lawyer too". That one may top the list actually.

Me, I'm single so my only valid excuse is I can't afford it......at the moment. ;)

Get a wider board, shortening your fingers is a bad option.... ;)

I like tiny necks with narrow boards, but I have small hands.
