I'm a radio programmer at an independent radio station in western Massachusetts. I saw Bill Kirchen which has inspired me to put together a show of great tele performances.

This would appear the best place to pose this question.

What is your favorite recorded Tele performance, all musical genres included?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Despite what we see in this video, the ears should tell us that Andy is clearly playing a tele. Straight ahead ska-inflected rock tones in the bridge position with a bridge that goes kinda fusion in a very cool way.

Great sound quality on the Albert Lee track for YouTube, thanks. And I hadn't thought of Andy Summers. Good one!

Different though they are, it has to be one of these for me.

"Just a Season" by The Byrds on the Untitled album. I love the interplay between McGuinn's 12 string and Clarence White's Telecaster.

+1 for Jimmy and Speedy. That's still a favorite. Also remember being knocked out by Ray Flacke with Picky Ricky....even bought the LP!

The Messiah Will Come Again is absolutely timeless... and I think it was the inspiration for Cause We've Ended as Lovers, which Jeff dedicated to Roy.

Also like Jeff's leads/fills here...Clapton knows he's been cut (2:08) yet is good natured about it.

    You're probably right about that.

And Randy, if the title of the thread had been "Greatest Tele solo in a pop song", I'd agree on "Hello Mary Lou"!

I would take that Butterscotch Tele over Jenny any day.

Just heard one for the first time in a long time. "Never Been to Spain" by 3 Dog Night. If that's not a Tele song, it should be.

Just to round out the flavors, Syd Barrett played a Squier Tele w/ Pink Floyd. John 5 of Rob Zombie.
